Just reinstalled Sims 3 with two new packs (70s/80s/90s & World Adventure), and got Error Code 16 problems about 2 hours into playing. It has now corrupted three save files, and the files will not delete. They'll just exist on the main menu as ghost records that 'cannot be loaded' due to an expansion used in them being uninstalled, even though no expansions were uninstalled. Makes the game totally unusable at this point. Anyone have any solutions for this?
So The Sims 3 is not letting me save the game. It says "An unexpected error has occurred while saving: Error Code 16. Please consult the readme for details." I was told to come here to get help. I don't how to fix the situation. This error occurred at least a week or two ago. Is there a way to fix it?

I really appreciate that you've tried to help me, thanks so much for your time. I looked at all the options you presented and decided that the one I was least likely to eff up was the creation of a new Windows account, purely for playing Sims 3. While it would have been nice for an EA tech to address this problem directly with a solution rather than a workaround, it's gotten to the point where I'm grateful just to be able to play my game without issues. I just downloaded the 2025 update for sims 3. I played in a brand new save for all of an hour, saved the game once while I was playing and then tried to save it one last time before I closed the game. I’ve gotten an error 16 message every time I try to save. I’ve repaired the game, updated my drivers, and tried to use my backup several times.
I have an all disk installation. I was getting a problem where my worlds werent even loading (none - at all!), so I uninstalled all of my Sims and reinstalled them, and used the superpatcher, now I am getting the exact same issue!!! I'm going to try and find an older version of the superpatcher (2023/2024), uninstall and try again!
It says see the readme, which sends you to EA for support, which gives you a long arbitary list of things to try, which dont work either, and then you're left with reacing out to this forum, on X (twitter) or youtube which again, does not help as there is nothing to do with error code 16.
From researching what, why etc... I have found a lot of people have had this issue!
Every time I start a new game, and I save after a day, there will be a pop-up about error 16 and I cannot save the game. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice, clearing all my save and still this issue keeps happening.
Please help because the game is unplayable since I can't save.
I'm having the same issue! I hope they fix it or is it something we can do to make it work cause. I did try reinstalling the game, making sure that I had enough space, and difference file name but nothing seems to work I still get that error message as well.
This problem started back in November and originally I thought it was just because I didn’t have a lot of space left on my computer. However I recently cleared out a bunch of old junk files and now have just over 40gb of free space. No matter what I do very save gives me an error 16. This is on a brand new sims 3 game, not even a full sim day has gone by. I can do save as but cannot save on that file again. When I go into saves to look at the file it seems to only save to the backup file. When I try to reopen the saved game it does not show up on the load game section. If I rename the back up save to appear as the main save and delete the empty save file I can load the game but I still can’t save it. I am at my wits end, I have no idea how else to fix this and can’t find any answers online that work.
I’ve tried the following suggestions that I’ve seen on various places online as possible solutions:
-rename backup file as new file
-stop one drive syncing files
-restart game
-creat whole new game
none of these things have worked.
I’d really appreciate if anyone had any other ideas on how to fix this. I’m not very good with technology so if any replies could be dumbed down to the most layman terms I’d really appreciate it. Thank you.
Also, in case it is relevant, my computer is a Surface Book 2 that is running windows 10 and I do not have any mods or custom content.
