Solved

Error code 16 keeps occurring

I've been playing my Sims family so long. Every time before I start playing, I must make a backup of the saves and delete all caches.

I also use "save as..." instead of saving it directly.

To ensure my game process, I used to save the game into 2 files, e.g "File A" and :FIle B".

Today, I repeated the same thing, saving it as "File A", but it tells me "saving error occurred, error code:16" for many times,

(and error code:12 occurred for once). So I try the solution that other helpers suggested here but it doesn't help.

Strangely, I opened a new game in a new town and chose a family to play and save, it didn't have any problem.

While I returned to the main menu to load my current family,

a window popped up "Loading error, we strongly recommend you exit the game" (Something like that cuz I translated it from Chinese to Eng)

I have all The Sims 3 except Movie Stuff and my computer does match the requirements of the Sims 3.

But 1 thing I have to mention, I installed TS3 in E-drive. And my C-drive is about to be full, so I wonder if this affects running of the game.

Please someone help me. Thanks a lot!!

@asheesksmith  I'm sorry, but I don't know of another way to get around Error 16.  There are ways to clean up a save that's prone to that error, e.g. using Kuree Save Cleaner or making the world less cluttered.  But I think the progress you've made in this last play session is unfortunately not recoverable.

Hello. I'm having this problem now. I just started playing this save a couple of days ago. I have 285 GB free out of 458 GB in my C drive. I backed up my Electronic Arts folder, cleared the cache, and emptied the recycle bin. I also deleted the .bad files in my Saves folder. I have them living in Riverview with one extra Venue, the laundromat from Town Life Stuff. I haven't added any more Sims to it than my household of 4 Sims. I wish the other post writer added on how much space they had so I could see if I have a similar problem. The only other game on my gaming laptop is The Sims 4 with Seasons, Dream Home Decorator game pack, and Halloween Stuff.

Hello, thank you for responding to my post. I'm not usually doing this at this hour but I woke up.

I set it to run as administrator after I did the compatibility mode. I don't think it matters, but I found the administrator instructions after I read your post a second time. I hope it is all set now.

But I do have only one shortcut. The expansion and stuff packs I downloaded from Origin. So how do I do the same for all my packs?

Thank you in advance for your help. I did test the game, it saved as so I accepted the compatibility mode of XP.

@enchantress6274  When you launch Sims 3, there's only one executable running, TS3.exe in your case.  (It's TS3W.exe for disc or Steam installs.)  The packs don't run as separate apps—their data is loaded into the game itself—so there's nothing else to run as an admin.

Thank you!! I may be all set to play it now, which is great, because I've been having trouble saving in my other saves too, but only when I played it to level 10 in a skill for each of my Sims.

I will be back in touch if it doesn't work because other players may be encountering similar issues.

Take care, you're the best for helping us!!!

  • Hi, I have had the same issue and now wondering, it might have to do with the fact I opened the Sims 3 World using Cheats via: 'testingCheatsEnabled true'.

I saved the sims world and got Error code 16 and sometimes before this I had Error code 12. So I closed the cheats first with command:' testingCheatsEnabled false'
saved the sims 3 world and it seems to work now. It clearly is logic thinking I guess because it should not be saved in Cheat option.
