Sims 3 64-bit crashing on Mac

Hi everyone, I have a 2024 MacBook Air I will put the specs below. Like 20-30 minutes into gameplay my game starts freezing every minute. I have lowered all detail to the lowest value, I have tries "Save as", I have moved my family to a different lot, I have repaired the game through EA, and I have uninstalled and re-installed. I am playing in sunset valley and these are the expansion packs I have: Pets, Seasons, High end loft stuff, Late Night, Generations, and Isla Paradiso. I do not have any mods the game is completely clean.

Specs:

Apple M3

8gb

MacOS sequoia

Please let me know if anyone knows what I could do it is driving me crazy.

  • Hi!

I play the Sims 3 on a MacBook Air with an M1 chip and I do not have the problem now. However, after playing and adding some CC (.packages and sims3packs) my game started to freeze every minute or so. I reinstalled the game with Pets, Seasons, Late Night, Generations, Ambitions, and Isla Paradiso without the Mods/.package files of CC and it fixed the problem. I also repaired the game multiple times before and after reinstalling just to be on the safe side. And each time I am going to launch my game I throw away some things. I will add what I throw away. There is one file that is PC specific however all the others are the same on a Mac. Good luck! I know how frustrating it is when the game freezes and starts and freezes and starts. Grrrr…..

    Hope this helps.

  • I forgot to say I use the NRAAS mods in my game. Specifically, nraas master controller, nraas error trap, nraas overwatch, and I also use nraas story progression. Nraas error trap and nraas overwatch always catch errors in my game. I highly recommend them.

  • emilycass  Do you still need help?  If so, please test a new save without the Pets expansion present.  Wherever the game is installed (Applications > EA Games by default), you'll see a Sims 3.app (with the green plumbob icon) and a "The Sims 3 Packs" folder.  Open the Packs folder and move the EP05 folder to the desktop, and Pets won't load.

You do need to test a new save, since a save that has previously used a certain expansion won't be viable without that expansion present.

I'm not saying you can't play with Pets installed, only that this is a useful test.  If it helps, there are ways to try to address the issue while still allowing you to play with the EP present.
