Error message "Unable to start. Please reinstall base game"

I received the error message

"Unable to start, please reinstall base game"

I haven't tried to play the Sims since Christmas. I have most of the expansion packs and haven't added anything else since the last time I played. All discs are store bought.

I recently logged into my Origin account and added my games to the "my games" tab and then tried to play the game but the launcher won't open and I get that error message. Tried bypassing the launcher too but that won't work either.

I'm currently living abroad so only have my latest expansion pack, Island Paradise. I can't reinstall everything until I get home which won't be for several months.

Please can somebody tell me how to fix this!!

  • When did you buy the base game ? Were you able to play the game without Origin before ?

    I would just try to apply the super patch over everything and see if that gets the game back in working condition

    Just say yes when it asks you if you want to overwrite.

    I got this error message when trying to play my sims game

    I haven't tried reinstalling because I'm currently out of the country and don't have the original game with me. I have almost all the expansion packs and I don't particularly want to spend days reinstalling them all.

    Does anybody know why this message has come up and how I can get round it?

    Is this something to do with Origin? I signed into my account for the first time and then my sims stopped working. All my games are store bought and not downloads.

    Please help!

    And I don't want to use Origin to play them, I have the disc. I just want it to run 🙂

    This is absolute *. I bought the starter pack last year December loaded it and when I tried playing it it did the same thing. So I reinstalled the games that means all my saves were gone n I had to start from scratch then I try play it again the next day after having saved a new game and it's telling me the same things. It's absolutely frustrating to say the least and * why put origin there if it has issues, I pay for the games aaand I'm wasting data on fixing problems that shouldn't be there!!!!!
