    Thank you for all your help with my problem.

    Yesterday it dawned on me what could be causing at least some of the problems with the game and realized it's the climate! The computer crashes also when I am on the internet.  I live in Kissimmee, Florida in something like a tin can on wheels that basically has no insulation to keep it cool during the summer or warm during the winter. 

    At least I am prepared to fix the problem when the weather will be ready to cooperate with me.

If you only deleted something in the user file folder, than that's ok, should not cause the error.

Maybe try renaming the whole user folder and let the game create a new one for testing purposes.

I did rename the folder and it didn't help nor did removing the cache folders.  The result I got from those two actions were the same of having it crash to desktop.

Amendment #1: Could the problem be in a folder in Programs and not Documents since changing the name of the old Document folder didn't help?  If it is would the only solution be uninstalling and reinstalling?  Amendment #2:  That wouldn't help because all the changes in the folders that would cause problems wouldn't happen in Programs, would it?

Crincrict, from your experience of solving problems with the game how often do you find the cause?  I am just asking because if I knew what went wrong I hopefully could prevent it from happening again.

    That heavily depends on the error.

    The service Initialisation one is most often sovled by a clean reinstall with cleaning out the registery (cause it's often either faulty keys or broked user files.

    So only thing I really would suggest, is doing a clean reinstall but I don't know why it happened to you by just renaming a folder in downloads. 

    Re-reading your post, I just want to make sure we're talking about the same folder: Are you talking about the downloads folder in documents or the installer files in programs ?

      I have never altered a folder in Programs.  The files in Documents are the files that will change the content in the game by adding a household, content from the store, adding a house, etc.  The files in Programs are the games. Updates for the game would added to Programs, not Documents.  Yes? 

      What I don't understand is that if all the changes that occur in the game are created only by the files in Documents, except for game updates,  how would uninstalling and reinstalling help the situation?

        Cause of the Windows registery. I don't believe it's something in the programs folder but something in the registery could be off (for whatever reason). A clean reinstall (that includes cleaning out the regsitery) would solve that.

        And yes, a patch would alter ther games in programs, not documents but depending on the patch, it could also add new folders to your doc folder.
