How do I restore a previously saved game in Sims3?

Question

So I've got this family that I was playing for a long time.

I took them on a trip to China and they never arrived.

There was absolutely no family there.

When I rebooted the game, they were gone!

I was asked to please select a household and they weren't one of them.

This is very frustrating.

What can I do?
