How the feck do I add new bars to my existing neighbourhoods?

Bought The Sims 3 on the Steam sale, played it for a bit and decided I'd get the first expansion, Nightlife or whatever the feck it is called. I'm starting to think it was a waste of money, and I was right that TS3 is the worst sequel ever created.

As I've only just started the basic neighbourhood I don't want to have to start over on a new one that has bars etc on it. But the game won't allow me to place any of the pre-built lots, clicking on the 'Place Copy' button does feck all, and THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS IN THE FECKING USELESS 'LESSONS'.

How do I place pre-built community lots, like the pre-built Dive Bar, in an existing neighbourhood?

go to world edit and edit the buildings and put the new bars if you are too lazy to do that then in world edit add the night life venues if you are too lazy to do that then play in bridgeport.

Step one: enter Edit Town mode from your current neighborhood.

Step two: Look at the sizes of the bar lots in your "place community lots" selection tab

Step three: Either using world edit to place a new lot to match or exceed the size requirements of the desired bar lot, or locate an existing empty lot in your town that meets the lot size requirements

Step four: Select the newly placed/located lot and change lot type to Community Lot then select the appropriate community lot sub-type from the drop down menu to match the bar you're wanting to place. (Dive bar, lounge, sports bar, dance club, etc)

Step five: select and place the desired bar from the Community lot list on the newly created lot OR edit the new lot and design your own bar, checking the requirements to ensure it will open for business when you return to game mode.

step six: save changes and return to game

    Hope this helps.

I'm having a similar issue. There are a lot of empty community lots in my town, but as soon as I select any of the pre-made existing community lots to place a copy, all of the lots icons "disappear" and I can't select any of them (at least 2 are larger than the lot I want to place). I've also tried to go into the lot in buy/build mode and looking at the "community objects" available, but not all of the pre-made lots are there to choose from (I'm trying to place a dive bar). I've had NO problem when I add existing apartment buildings or houses to my towns, but for some reason community lots are giving me this issue. It doesn't matter what type of pre-made community building I pick, I can't select any available lots to place copies!!
