Installing Origin for only one user account on PC

What I need to know is this; can I install Origin on my PC for just one user account, without it affecting another user account on the same PC?  I play TS3 from the disc, not from Origin, and prefer it updated to 1.67, NOT 1.69, but I'd like to play TS2 on Origin, if I can do so without altering TS3.  So, is this possible, or will installing Origin alter TS3 as well?

  • @ladygreeneyes649  Games, and Origin, are typically installed into Program Files (x86), the contents of which are not account-specific.  So even if you install Origin into a different account, it will likely detect your Sims 3 install and try to update it.  As long as you're watching closely, you can cancel the update before it finishes, and your install should be fine, but Origin may keep trying.  You can reduce the frequency of the attempts by disabling auto game updates in Origin: hover over your username, select Application Settings, and under Application (the first header), scroll down to Client update to see the option.

The other thing you can do, once Sims 2 is installed, is put Origin in offline mode.  It then wouldn't be able to download any updates.  You can still launch your games while in offline mode—even if the game library doesn't load, which it should, you can sign into Origin and then launch from a game's .exe.

Hey @ladygreeneyes649 if you have various admin accounts and each is set up to be independent of the other then you should have no issues with having Origin on one account.

I would recommend not installing the game through Origin on the secondary account to ensure that it does not update.

  • Appreciate that!  What I suspected, so not sure how I will handle the issue, thanks!

  • Might try it, but have also read it can cross user accounts, so not sure.  Wish EA actually had support for this!

Hey @ladygreeneyes649 as long as you are not installing or launching The Sims 3 from within Origin or an Origin linked shortcut on either account then you should have no issues.
