Launcher crashes when I open the downloads tab in Sims 3

Game launcher crashes when I open the downloads tab in Sims 3, maybe someone has ideas how to fix this problem. I play in Mac. I uninstalled everything and then reinstalled but unfortunately it didn't help. I bought a new world - Roaring Heights Gold Edition but I can't download it in my game when launcher crashes.

puzzlezaddict  Your instructions helped me, thank you! I can open downloads tab, just for once, but can :) but now I have problem with installing it.. It starts installing, takes a little bit time but crashes then and automatically closes the game launcher. Do you have a solution for this too? I'm very thankful!

I am having the exact same problem. On the exact same Mac OS. I purchased Hidden Springs and Monte Vista. Deleted all of my cc, cleared my cache, reinstalled, everything.

  • I'm running the game on Mac OS Sequoia 15.4.1.  I have removed the downloads folder; it didn't resolve the issue. I have repaired the game. That didn't help either. The game will start without any custom content, hidden springs is NOT in the list of worlds. Content cannot be added back because (once again) the launcher crashes. The downloads tab cannot be opened. Quitting the game  leaves me stuck in a force quit situation.  None of this was happening before purchasing the new world, which isn't even showing up.

  • mannnnnuu dockhals  Try removing the Downloads folder inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.  Download a fresh copy of Roaring Heights, which will create a new Downloads folder, and see whether the launcher works properly.

The files in Downloads are no longer needed after you install the content they contain, so you could delete this entire folder if you wanted.  But if you've downloaded other content that you'd like to be able to use in the future without tracking it down again, you can keep this folder somewhere else and add back the files you want to reinstall when necessary.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the game doesn't help with this kind of issue because it doesn't touch the user files: everything in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.

dockhals  If the above doesn't help, please let me know whether your computer runs Windows or macOS, for future reference.

  • The same is happening to me. I bought Hidden Springs and suddenly the game crashes at launch, won't let me open the downloads folder (crashes again). Repairing the game from the EA app, removing all the custom content,  uninstalling and the reinstalling the game doesn't resolve the issue.
