Make sure you're signed into an EA site (this one is fine) in the browser before clicking the link.
As for attaching the thread, you could just link it during the live chat.
Now the agent is telling me the sims 3 store is not compatible with steam. He says "You can not own sims 3 store items, if you have steam"
This is their response.
"Autumn, the Sims 3 is an EA website, it cannot recognize the game on Steam if you do not link your Steam to EA. You can use the Sims 3 website with the same credentials of your Origin account where you had the games on EA previously."
I don't know if this is true or not. But the purpose of buying on steam was to get origin off my PC.

@graceymanors It's not true and has never been true. Like many other players, I have a Steam install and use my store content all the time.
Rather than going back and forth with support on this, please wait a couple days for a response, here, from someone from EA. I'm going to try to see if there's anything else that can be done, by you or support.
