you need XQuartz as a stand-in for X11, since X11 isn't included in Mavericks. It's still free and Apple supported though apparently. I wrote the tutorial to be all inclusive since a mac simmer on tumblr was having a lot of trouble and I thought it would be helpful to make a tutorial that includes pretty much everything (including links to other resources & tutorials, tips & tricks) from mono to X11/XQuartz and s3pe, Delphy's Dashboard and s3mpi
it's just a culmination of everything I've learned/everything I could find, basically. I know how frustrating it is to try and find everything that's scattered around the internet in bits and pieces. I've linked stuff like how to do a clean uninstall/reinstall of your games and the basic clearing of caches, which can be tricky if someone doesn't know how to access the hidden Library file in Finder, or if they're just unfamiliar with jumping through hoops & writing Terminal commands on their Mac
there was also a tutorial on using Wineskin Winery to help cider not crash constantly. it was on macsimblr or something or other, but their layout crashes my browser and I wasn't sure if anyone else could get to it, so I have it on my blog as well :)
edit: I swear by Wineskin and FreeMemory Pro, and the only thing I haven't worked out is how to get the decrapifier to work on my machine. There's a custom world I want to play with and despite having a legitimate copy of Monte Vista, the MV objects won't show up. Other than that though, I'm extremely happy with my game--I use AwesomeMod and Nraas Overwatch, Woohooer and Dresser
