Unable to install Custom Content

Hi there! I downloaded the Sims 3 today on my new laptop but am having issues installing the Custom Content. When I select the install button, it appears as though it is about to load then stops and does nothing.

SOLVED: I was finally able to find a solution! I downloaded the CC from The Sims Resources > Once in the Downloads folder of the Sims launcher, I installed the CC > Once installed, I deleted the files that downloaded from The Sims Resources. My game now runs, and I can use CC! Thank you for your support! :)

  • BethRoseM  Does the game work properly, and did you need to do anything to help it along, for example one of the Alder Lake fixes?  I ask because the launcher's installer has the same problem as Sims 3 itself, and while the Alder Lake patch fixes both, the PowerShell and Task Manager methods need to be applied to both, each time.

Aside from that, were you ever able to install custom content, and if so, when did the process stop working?  Does it help to rename the Sims 3 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts and allow the game to create a new one?  Doing so would prevent your saves from loading, but they'd still be present and could be restored later.  This is a test to see whether something you've already installed is the problem.  Please test with different cc than you've currently been trying to install, in case those items are broken.

Hi! I have not been able to install anything, I have in the past on a previous laptop using origin, but not since getting a new laptop and using EA. I originally had problems with getting the app to start, when I would press the play button on the launcher it would take me to the EA homepage, if I tried to press play from EA then it would take me to the game launcher and it was a continuous cycle. I had to do Task Manager, check the CPU and start it that way. I can see my downloads in the download folder but when I attempt to instal it grays out for like 5 seconds then does nothing. I have tried numerous things that I saw online and nothing has worked including deleting folders, moving folders, renaming folder, resetting my laptop, uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

UPDATE: I finally managed to get the CC to install but it now will not let me create a world. I get an error message "A serious error has occurred with (WORLD Name)." I saw something online that instructed to turn off OneDrive, and I did - I also moved the EA Folder from documents to the desktop. This worked, and I was able to create a world however all of my custom content was gone. It seems as though the game only works without Custom Content and I don't know what else to do :(

This still won't work... I moved everything to the desktop, opened the launched which created a new Sims 3 folder, downloaded and installed a new piece off Custom Content, logged into the game and attempted to create a world and received the same error "A serious error has occurred with (WORLD Name)."

  • BethRoseM  Does the game currently work if you create a(nother) clean folder and do NOT install any custom content?  Or do you still get the "serious error" message?  Please let me know either way.  I'm wondering whether you happened to get around the error one time but it's back, or the cc is actually the issue here.

Installing custom content in general isn't a problem, but it's possible the cc you're using is.  So if you can play normally with no cc present, but not with this particular item, try different cc (in yet another clean folder) instead and see how it goes.
