Solved

My sims 3 doesn't start when i hit start button in launcher.

Helo,

Today i downloaded and reinstalled Sims 3 and all expansions ( that used to be DVD-versions) via origin and added 2 digital versions that i bought online. After installing everything i started Sims 3, i get the Sims launcher and when i hit the playbutton notting happens and everything just shuts down. Origin is up to date and that's the same for Sims 3. I have tryed about everything so far that i can think off, but can't find the problem.

Best regards

Kiaori

  • Ok so i uninstalled bitdefender and sims worked, i reinstalled bitdefender, same problem happened, sims didn't start again.

So how did i fix this:

    - open bitdefender

    - go to settings

    - open the option antivirus

    - go to the tab 'Shield'

    - you will see active virus management and to the right of that you will see on/off. Put that off and problem solved.

Thx for the help i couldend have done this myself.

    Best Regards

  • Bitdefender has a known conflict with the game on windows 8.

Try if it starts if you turn it off.

Also your graphic card info is missing from your dxdiag. Try redownloading the drivers.

  • I have turned off Bitdefender and i installed the new drivers of my grafic card, it's still the same. Everytime i try to start Sims, i get the launcher i press the play button but nothing happens.

Do you see a repair option if you right click on the game in Origin ? If so, try it.

Could you also post this info:

    1. Click on Start and then type the following into the search prompt at the bottom: perfmon /rel
    2. Press Enter to proceed.
    3. A window will open and in there you can click on the red circles with a white X.
    4. After clicking the X, the info on the bottom will update. Choose the Sims 3 Critical Event one and right click on it and choose "View Technical Details"
    5. Now on the next window, choose Copy to clipboard at the very bottom and post this into a reply to us here.
  • I don't see a repair option and for the extra info:

Google says avcuf32.dll belongs to BitDefender ....

Would you be willing to uninstall it for testing purposes ? Maybe something is still running.

  • Ok i uninstalled Bitdefender and i could start sims without a problem, the moment i reinstalled bitdefender i had again the same problem. Now i started looking in my bitdefender and the problem causing all of this is my active virus management. I putted that on off and i can log on to sims. Now my question is, can this cause any problems when it is turned off? I have aloth off games running and i have been hacked a few times before.

That's a good question. I would think that as long as you don't use the internet while playing the game, you should be ok. I would turn off Origin after the initial start (you can do that as soon as the game is running).

I don't think you'll get a virus through the game itself.

I would be very grateful if you could write down exactly what you did to get it running. Were did you find the setting to turn off ? Step-by-step instructions would be awesome. I don't have bitDefender myself so that would be a great help to others.

    Thanks so much.

I'm sure that will help others.

I've accepted a solution for this thread. Please feel free to revoke it (options - not the solution) if you have further issues.

Also will be using your solution (with credits) if others have this. Hope that is ok.
