My Sims 3 won't load

I am using Windows 8.1 and I just reinstalled Origin with my Sims 3 games on it (The Sims 3, Ambitions, Generations, Pets, Supernatural, Town Life Stuff, World Adventures are all installed). But when The Sims 3 launcher load, a error message that says "Unable to connect to origin" pops up.  When I check to see if there is updates there isn't any listed. Anyway, when I click "play" the launcher disappears but the game never loads. I don't know what the problem is, I have turned the firewalls off to make sure that isn't the problem. Is the error message "Unable to connect to origin" the reason the game won't load?

P.S: After I click play and it won't load, when I try to log out of Origin it says "You cannot logout of Origin because The Sims 3 is running. Please close the game and try again."
