'No Sound Bug' Case Opened
I called EA again today and was able to open a case concerning the no sound bug. The last time I called I was told it was a known issue, but checking in today to see how things were progressing, it seems as if it may not have been after all. Either way, there is an official case now opened that has been submitted for escalation.
If you are experiencing the no sound bug, which also includes sound cutting in and out issues, please make a post describing the exact issues that you are experiencing and include a copy of your dxdiag report. If you are looking specifically for assistance in determining if your audio driver is outdated and updating your audio driver, please make a note of that so that I will know to respond to your post.
This thread will be included as a reference note in the case, so the more reports on this bug the better.

EA Is Aware Of 'No Sound Bug'
I contacted EA concerning the no sound bug introduced through The Sims 3 Showtime Expansion Pack. After explaining what the sound issue entailed, I was told that EA is aware of the bug and that it is on the "known" issues list, and that they are looking into it. So while not publicly noted on the forums, EA is acknowledging a sound issue involving various objects and interactions in The Sims 3 Showtime EP. There is currently no timetable as to when a fix may come about.

A New Direction
As of today, the focus of the 'no sound bug' is moving away from driver updates (way too inconsistent to be useful), and towards documenting any interesting observations regarding the no sound issue. Here is a list of guide questions concerning the type of information that is being sought out, but please add any and all pertinent information.
Regarding the no sound bug...
1. How does it affect your game? Exactly what objects and interactions can you hear and not hear?
2. Do you notice any particular object/interaction that seems to trigger the issue?
3. Are your sound issues consistent? Same missing sounds each and every time, or does it vary?
4. When does it affect your game? The minute your begin playing, or a few hours in?
5. How often your notice the issue? Does the sound come and go, or once it goes is it gone for good for that session?
6. Does the issue occur during every gaming session?
7. What, if anything, do you remember doing different during a session when you do not appear to have the issue that day?
8. Does being logged in or not logged in to your account make a difference in the frequency of the no sound issue?
9. Does this issue only affect your game, once a sim in the singing career reaches a certain level?
10. Have you had the issue the entire time that you have played The Sims 3 Showtime EP, or did the issue just recently begin?
