Same thing happens to my game. Everything works ok, unless my sim goes to the beach in Starlight Shores. Maybe it's the jukebox? Once the music cuts out, I will usually just exit and restart my game. If I try and go to the main menu instead it freezes up and usually crashes.
I'm going to delete the jukebox from that lot, and see if it makes a difference.
Okay, I removed the jukebox and then sent my sim on various singing assignments etc. The sound worked fine until he went back to the beach (even minus the jukebox) and there was no sound when he sang. I might try deleting the lot next...
