please help with sims 3 error during start up

Hello! So I owned sims 3 base game on steam for some time now and one dlc however couple of days ago I was gifted the sims 3 collection and now I am not able to launch my game at all? When I launch the game i get the CD keys stuff pop up but i cant put those keys anywhere but idk if i need them at all. I did some research online and ithink it is about some registry or whatever but I did delete the registry and unisntalled/installed the game twice  (used revo installer to get rid of all files) and I am still getting this error...... What should I do I am unable to play it T.T I even tried launching with no DLC and even launch from the game itself to bypass the launcher and still nothing. PLEASE HELP

  • Katofhyrule12  That is not at all my experience with Sims 3, and I have a Steam install.  The game just works, every time.  If you'd like help getting things to work better, feel free to start your own thread describing the issues you'd like addressed.

  • I have more trouble using Steam than if I just use the EA app. I was able to type some codes into the EA app that allow me to play the game and DLC purchased in the Steam app. In Windows, I sometimes have to delete every temp file that I can find. I watch YouTube videos about deleting temp files and just keep deleting until the game works. I never seem to remember to write down what I did somewhere that I will find it again when I need it again.

When it comes to mods and CC, I have to install some things in a certain order or my game cannot open. Usually mods folder packages first. Then Sims3 packs patterns next, then Sims3 packs objects, then Sims3 packs lots, then Sims3 pack worlds.

This game is a LOT of work to learn to play and maintain. A LOT LOT LOT. But the color wheel and patterns are so good! Good luck!

  • kiragrls  What I am saying is, if you install Sims 3 and some DLC, and then you uninstall some DLC through Steam but do NOT also delete the registry entries that correspond to that DLC, you will get this error.  It's not the only cause, but it is the most obvious one, which is why I'm asking.  Using Revo to do a clean uninstall is great, but you can cause the issue again if you do the same thing a second time.

And there are two registry entries per pack, at least in a Steam install.

I'm also saying that one way to fix this particular cause of this error is to reinstall all your DLC.  If you don't want to use all the DLC right now, that's fine, but please test anyway.

Hello! Thank you so much for your reply but If I am being honest I am realy confused by your response english is not my first language lol...

I did delete everything with revo and reinstalled the game if that is what you are asking but it still doesn't work.

I also tried disabling DLC through steam and launching but still doesnt work.

When I try to launch the game I also get the CD keys window pop up with codes is that smth Ineed to activate??

I have already deleted the regitrys manually in steam folder before as well..

  • kiragrls  Have you been disabling/uninstalling DLC before trying to launch the game?  That's the most common cause of this issue.  Uninstalling the DLC through Steam doesn't remove the registry entries, and the game won't launch with registry entries present but without those packs installed.  Uninstalling the entire game with Revo would fix this, as would deleting the relevant registry entries by hand, but reinstalling everything and then disabling DLC again would reintroduce the issue.

Anyway, let me know if you've done this, and if you have, one way around the error is to reenable all the DLC.  Even if you don't want to play with everything right now, it's a useful test.  Just don't start a save you want to keep with all DLC enabled because it won't be playable once you disable any expansions.

By the way, there are two sets of registry entries associated with a Sims 3 install on Steam.  Let me know if you only found one.
