Re: The Sims 3 Crashes Unexpectedly (M1)

@theoplayss  What world(s) are you playing in?  Do you use mods and custom content?  It's fine if you do, but that does need to be taken into account.

    @puzzlezaddict both Bridgeport and Sunset Valley (I have no other worlds). No CC or mods exist. I did delete a couple of packages files in Documents/ The Sims 3/ but it only maximised my play time to about an hour (bare in mind I shut my macs screen during the game, and after reopening and continuing the game, it lasted about 20 minutes)

    @theoplayss  Does this happen if you don't shut your laptop screen?  Are you playing with the laptop plugged in the whole time, or are you running on battery?

    @puzzlezaddict It has happened before with laptop screen always on (like 9 out of the 10 times that happened). I always play my games while being plugged.

    @theoplayss  What version of macOS are you running?

    Have you noticed anything happening around the time of the crashes?  It could be a certain sim-time of day, or a sim interacting with a certain object.  For example, trying to use the climbing wall from the store causes an instant crash, and if you placed one somewhere in the world, another sim could attempt to use it without your noticing.

    Please also try playing while your computer is offline.  You can sign into Origin and put the game in offline mode, then disable wifi before pressing Play.

    Hi @theoplayss ,
    I myself have a MacBook Air M1, and it took me a long time to understand how to avoid crashes at all costs (now I have none where very rarely.)
    First of all,

    You have to deactivate iCloud Drive Files (desktop files and documents randomly synchronize to the drive and this even offline.) this causes the game crash;

    When you play with an optical mouse (if it is) don't use the middle wheel to rotate the camera, or as little as possible it causes a RAM overload (I don't know why) and the game crash;

    I strongly advise you to download the mods that fix all the bugs of the game by simler90's *  it solves problems with the 32-bit edition but also other problems with the x64 (this fix is updated regularly) and NRAAS mods;

    Then regularly clear the game cache by deleting the "CASPartCache.package" "scriptCache.package" "compositorCache.package" "simCompositorCache.package" "socialCache.package" files available in Documents/EA/The Sims 3;

    It is also good to modify the Sims3.ini file, and to deactivate the Pre-Loader, to increase the RAM allocated it makes the game more stable but I don't think it promotes crashes;

    If you still have problems with that, it may be a problem with the configuration of your Mac (I haven't had any feedback on the stability of Rosetta under Mac OS Ventura) or your game;

    Salut @theoplayss,

    J'ai moi même un MacBook Air M1, et j'ai mis beaucoup de temps à comprendre comment évite les crash à tout va (maintenant je n'en ai plus où que très rarement.)

    Tout d'abord,

    Il faut que tu désactive iCloud Drive Files (les fichiers du bureau et des documents se synchronisent aléatoirement vers le drive et ce même hors-ligne.) cela provoque des crash du jeu ;

    Lorsque tu joue avec une souris optique (si c'est le cas) n'utilise pas la roulette du milieu pour faire pivoter la caméra, ou le moins possible cela provoque une surcharge de la mémoire vive (je ne sais pas pourquoi) et le jeux crash.

    Je te conseille vivement de télécharger le mods qui fixe tous les bugs du jeu par simler90's *  il permet de résoudre des soucis avec l'édition 32 bits mais aussi d'autres soucis avec la x64. ( ce fix est mis à jours régulièrement) ainsi que les mods NRAAS

    Ensuite, vide régulièrement le cache du jeu en supprimant les fichiers "CASPartCache.package" "scriptCache.package" "compositorCache.package" "simCompositorCache.package" "socialCache.package" disponible dans Documents/EA/The Sims 3

    Il est aussi bon de modifier le fichier Sims3.ini, et de désactiver le Pre-Loader, augmenter la mémoire vive alloué cela rends le jeu plus stable mais je ne pense pas que cela favorise des crash;

    Si tu as encore des soucis avec ça, c'est peut-être un soucis avec la configuration de ton Mac (je n'ai pas eu de retour sur la stabilité de Rosetta sous Mac OS Ventura) ou de ton jeu;

    @yobsvhs  Simler's mod doesn't do much to prevent crashing.  It attempts to address bugs that cause more minor gameplay errors and those that cause longer-term corruption, not instant crashes.

    Additionally, there's no need to edit any file to make Sims 3 use more RAM, ever.  The Mac version has no RAM limit aside from the system's own installed memory.  The Windows version is already large-address aware, meaning it can use the maximum 4 GB memory (minus a bit of overhead) available to 32-bit apps.  This is a mathematical hard limit that cannot be overcome.

    I never said it prevented crashes, only that the game was more stable with it..
    I also noticed that some active professions no longer work very well with the x64 version, the fix allowed me to find these professions (like ghost hunter)
    I also know that a default x64 application can allocate more RAM without changes to .ini files
    however, it would seem that increasing this value avoids some allocation bugs when the application is translated.
