Hi! The same thing happens to me. It’s very annoying. I’m able to create a house and a household but not play in live mode. I’ve called EA and they had me uninstall and re-install the game as well as origin but that did nothing. My Mac is a few months old (so very new) and has all the recommended specs. Please let me know if you fix your issue because I’m running out of ideas....
I called EA again and they basically said they’re unable to see the crash on their end (admitted it makes everything harder haha...) and said IF they get more complaints like this, they’ll open the case and find the issue. So it seems they won’t really have an answer unless they look for it which they won’t if not enough people complain....
@XprincessdidiY @warmteainmyhand and @missminimama85 Please attach your deviceconfig.log, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3. You'll neeed to manually open the folders; the file won't show up in a search. You can delete your user and computer names, about 25 lines down, but there's nothing else in that file that can identify you.
Please also try turning down the graphics to the minimum settings and putting the game in windowed mode, at least for now. It's a useful test, even if you don't want to play that way going forward. Change the settings at the Main Menu and then quit the game before loading a save.
@XprincessdidiY I'm curious whether it works to place a family without a pet and then adopt one in live mode. I agree that you should be able to play with pets, but maybe that would be a useful workaround for now.
@missminimama85 Please clarify whether the household you're trying to place does have a pet in it.

@puzzlezaddict Here's the thing....I don't even have "the sims 3" folder anywhere in my computer! I have uninstalled and re-installed both origin and TS3 thinking it would appear as it should (right??) but nothing. If I go documents > EA> I only have TS4 and then "TS3 packs". I'm wondering if that's the issue??...
My computer specs are :
Processor: 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 (1 processor, 4 cores)
Memory: 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3 (I also have an additional 140+ GB I pay for monthly at apple if that helps..)
Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 1536 MB
I have two memory sloths each with 8GB :
Type: LPDDR3
Speed: 2133 MHz
Status: OK
Edit: I have successfully ran the game without a pet in my household. I created a new sim, bought a house and everything ran smoothly like I remember it 10 years ago (makes me happy cause I love this game). I don't mind not having a pet for a bit if that's the issue. Do you predict EA will be working to fix the pets expansion pack?
Also, should I be concerned about the lack of TS3 folder in my files/documents
