Hey so MaxisJoe asked me to start a fresh thread on this - so I have the game installed and I have the CD Key but when I try and start the game from The Sims 3 launcher it doesn't open at all - I just get 'The Sims 3 quit unexpectedly' Attached a screenshot from the launcher...

@MaxisJoe I am done with trying to figure this out, I've spent many hours and many days trying to fix this and now my game is unplayable from the crashes. I have every single bug mentioned, from sim packs not installing, water features not working, eyelashes and hair looking bad, now it is fully quitting the second I load one of my saves. I am going to wait this out. I have spent countless hours on these forums, and no good solutions have appeared. I appreciate all your guys' hard work. Please let us know when you have fixed the game, I can't take working on this frustrating game anymore.

Yep, that Update button is just vestigial. Ignore it. We meant to remove it, but ... Ooops. As far as being on Beta Big Sur is concerned, yeah, it's been a rocky road (the Big Sur beta, that is - lots of things changed under the hood that are causing compatibility problems). Shouldn't be a problem here though. Works for me.

@ad1991 I do know that Sims 3 works on the latest Big Sur beta, so that alone shouldn't be the issue. Please restart your computer, sign into Origin, put it in offline mode, and try to launch the game. Don't open any other apps on your computer. If that doesn't help, please post the full specs of your Mac, including OS build, as described here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-3-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4756624#M2878

@ad1991 The "can't find the server" error is probably unrelated: many of us have the same error and can play just fine. Please try repairing the game in Origin: open your game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair. If that doesn't help, move your entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and test again.

@MaxisJoe @puzzlezaddict I am having a similar problem except I am on macOS Catalina. I have tried just downloading base game and each of my pack individually and nothing has worked so far. I am able into live mode because it shuts down and returns to Origin within the first minute. I can use CAS no problem. I am horrible with computers and have no idea how to access my specs. I have tried re-downloading and repairing multiple times. I have received the fix and have the CD key.

@KelliDever Please attach your deviceconfig.log, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3. You'll neeed to manually open the folders; the file won't show up in a search. You can delete your user and computer names, about 25 lines down, but there's nothing else in that file that can identify you.

@KelliDever Yes, that's the relevant information. Does the household you're playing, or trying to play, have a pet? If so, please try a household that doesn't have a pet, just to see whether it makes a difference.

If not, please try playing on minimum settings, again just as a test.

Im having the same issue when I press play on the launcher it takes me back to origin with the message The Sims 3 quit unexpectedly.
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)
Also I installed the game on HDD that I added to my laptop.

@anivazqueza Are you trying to play the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of Sims 3? Your laptop doesn't support the 64-bit version: it also requires Metal, which your laptop is too old to have.

I’m having the issue where I can’t even make it past hairs on CAS mode without I quitting “unexpectedly” and I have put everything on the low default settings. Still having issues. Haven’t even got to play yet.

@puzzlezaddict I tried a single sim household, no pets, and with the lowest settings possible. It ran fairly well for about 10 minutes so I turned up the settings a little bit. It was a little slow(much slower than you would expect with the settings all the way down.) The game did not crash though, so thank you so much for your help!
Edit: I tried a larger household and it is working pretty well. That was really helpful, thank you so much.
