Sims 3 and internet connection

I just downloaded sims 3 expansion pack and sims 4 the other day on my macbook air. I am using origin for both the games. The sims 3 will not open a notification always pops up saying "There is a problem connecting to server. Please ensure your internet connection is active. If the problem persists try again later." It's not my connection because my wifi works just fine. I should also point out that my sims 4 opens and lets me. play. But for some reason sims 3 won't. I read the answer hq posts about this problem but understand a single thing I am supposed to do. I am new to EA games as. well as computer games so I don't understand what I am supposed to do. I am getting VERY frustrated with EA. I need help can someone please help. I just want to play sims.

@puzzlezaddict I tried downloading the super patch, but it won't work on my laptop. I even. changed the security settings. So i decided to delete sims 3 using these instructions:

    http://bluebellflora.com/the-sims-3-on-a-mac/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/

I don't know if this is related, but the sims 3 icon is in my dock and it shows it as opened. It is still in my dock after deleting everything. I have tried moving it to the trash, but it won't go and it also won't let me open it. Should I just try redownloading sims 3? and if so is there something I can do when redownloading it so that it works this time

@lilymanring  You should be able to right-click on the Sims 3 icon in your dock and select Options > Remove from Dock.  If it doesn't work, restart your computer and try again.

The Super Patch should work, and it almost always does.  But you have to manually select the Sims 3 base game icon, opening one folder at a time until you get there (no double-clicking).  If you select a different app or a folder, you'll get an error that you can't apply the patch to this version of the app, or something similar.

So yes, please download the base game only, apply the Super Patch, and then do the workaround in the link.  If you plan on installing any packs, let me know what they are, but don't download them yet—a few of them will produce an unknown error unless you apply separate workarounds.

@puzzlezaddict I was able to apply the super patch. I followed your instructions from the past link, but for starters my sims 3 appears as a folder and not a green icon like my sims 4. I still clicked on the folder hoping I could still follow these steps:
Once the Super Patch as run, right-click (or hold the control key and click) on the green Sims 3 icon in Applications\The Sims 3 and select Show Package Contents. From there, follow this path:

    Contents\Resources\transgaming\c_drive\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\Packs\TS3

But once I clicked on the sims 3 folder 3 options came up "contents" which was a folder, "the sims 3" which was the green bobble, and "the sims 3 uninstaller" which was also the green bobble. Only the folder that said contents had an arrow and allowed me to click on it, once I clicked on it it took me to another folder that said content and then after that the trail stopped and there was nothing else I could click on
So next I repeated this process only instead of clicking on the contents folder I clicked on the sims 3 bobble and applied the super patch because it finally let me. once It downloaded I tried opening sims 3 but I encountered the same problem I have been having. What am I doing wrong and what should I do? Is there a possibility when I redownloaded sims 3 it redownloaded everything and not just the base game? If so is there a way I can download just the base game? and if not what else should I do

@lilymanring  Once you open the Sims 3 folder, right-click on the green plumbob and select Show Package Contents.  Once inside, you'll see a Contents folder, and Resources inside that, etc.  After you've open the package contents from the green plumbob, you can just open the rest of the folders normally.

@lilymanring  Just to be clear, you're right-clicking on this Sims 3 plumbob, right?

If the game launches at all, even if it hangs on the server error screen, there have to be package contents.  If you two-finger click on a trackpad, or hold down ctrl and click, any icon or folder at all should show at least some options.

@lilymanring  Are you saying you get the unknown error now?  If not, please take a screenshot of the error you do see.

If this is the unknown error, please list the full specs of your Mac, as described here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-3-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4756624#M2878

When you say you don't have any packs, do you mean you don't have any installed, or that you don't own any?  If you do own at least one, is it possible Origin automatically installed it?  Open Package Contents the same way you did before, then open Contents > Resources >AddOns, and let me know if there's anything in that folder besides the uninstaller.
