I also have the Sims 2 and all of its expansion / stuff packs installed. I don't really play it much, so would uninstalling all of that allow me to play Sims 3 properly?
I'd uninstall the Sims 2 games if you don't play. Free up as much space as you can. When I first installed the Sims 3, it crashed on me a few times. I uninstalled all my Sims 2 games and then it worked fine. Also, any other games that you don't use anymore simply take up space. So it would be best to uninstall any unused games. And if you later on want to play them again, simply re-install. But be careful of how much space you use.
