Your graphics drivers could do with an update and the computer is generally on the low side but if you have your whole computer shut off, it could also be a problem of overheating.
Make sure you have enough cooling, clean out your fans and check your computers temperature.
I cleaned out the vents best I could. I'm looking for a good graphics card but I'll have to work a little harder.

Thanks for your help, in any case. It's still crashing (windows says "sims 3 has stopped working" now).There's usually one with the graphics card that tells you how hot it is. Otherwise you can try coretemp (just google)
Is your computer no longer shutting off ? Is it just the game now ?
