Sims 3 does not recognise AMD Radeon R9 280X

We had an AMD user here recently with kind of the same problem. She had dual AMD and Itel and the game would not recognize her AMD card but she found some kind of fix so read her notes and see if it works for you. Do you have dual graphics one of them being intel?

Thanks for your post.  I don't have dual graphics, just my AMD card.  I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.  Interestingly, the DeviceConfig.log is completely empty.

If you have a newer card the game will not accept the newer card you have to make the game accept the card if its not on EA's supported list. Ok I have an Nvidia card so not sure about AMD but if you know how to work your control panel for AMD you may be able to do the same thing I do with the Nvida card. If not I can ask another helper who uses AMD to help you.

I like you only have one card, I did not change my sgr files , I just get my Nvidia control panel to accept the game file.

I can tell you how to get to your game file and see if you can get your card to accpet the game file rather than the game file accepting your video card.

The game runs off the TS3W file. Computer C, to program files x86, to origin game file, to the sims 3 file, to the game file, to the bin file. In the bin file you will find the TS3W file.

PS I forgot to mention does your AMD have an FPS limiter on it like Nvidia? You need a limiter on your card with tis game or your fps will run really high on a high end video card and fry your card. Make sure you keep a fps limter on this game and any other EA games you own.

I've located the ts3w.exe file but can't see how I can launch it from the AMD Gaming Evolved software.  I don't know if it's relevant, but I got the game through EA Origin.  I believe that the the MSI Afterburner software which came with my card has an FPS limiter.

Because I dont have AMD Im not sure how you would get AMD to accept the TS3W file  but the whole game runs off the TS3W file. Your card has been tested and can most certainly run the game. Im going to post in the helpers corner and see if there a helper who can help you further with this issue.

Well, the AMD Gaming Evolved Client does seem to support Sims.

Do you not see it on the list of games when you start that program ?

I have no idea how it works but on this pic: http://raptr.com/amd it has all the games installed listed and I assume you can optimize and then click Launch game.

Could you try the following:

1. Close the game and launcher
2. Go to the following folder documents\electronicarts\thesims3\ and find a file called options(.ini)
3. Open the file with a text edior of your choice
4. Find the following line: fullscreen = 1
5. Change it to fullscreen = 0
6. Start the game

The game should now start in windowed mode. See if that works.
