Sims 3 game launcher won't open/load

Since the last update, my game launcher won't open/load.  I checked my Norton Anti-Virus but it has not quarantined my launcher.  Is there any other reason I haven't thought of to fix this?

  • Yeah, this seems an issue with the new patch. You need to start the game through Origin now. The shortcut only starts Origin.

The only thing that worked for me was to do a factory reset.  Crinrict has it on her blog site.

    To do a factory reset

Clear all your cache files in the Sims3 file.

Copy your sims3 file to a back up.  I saved mine to the desktop.

Rename your Sims3 file to Sims3_old

    Start up your launcher.

If that worked and your launcher starts up and plays, you might have a corrupt saved game in the Sims 3 file you just renamed as _old.

You will then want to slowly moved back files one at a time.  Move a file and then play.  See if the game still works.  Move your collections folder.  Then your user presets. Etc.  For more information, check out Crinricts blog site

    http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/06/tutorial-resetting-the-game-to-factory-settings-without-reinstalling.html

If you are downloading CC from sites, you will want to check your download folder for bad or corrupt CC.  Check out the programs Delphy's Dashboard or Custard which can easily be found on the internet.  If you use these programs before doing the factory reset, you may be able to find the corrupt item(s) and delete them from your installed content in the launcher.

    Hope that helps.

  • I tried to do what you've explained, but when I scroll to it, it's faded and I can't click Play. I'm starting to lose hope 😢

Can you right click on the game and hit repair game ?

  • I have the same problem, i have sims 3 via disc and origin. Usually if i click on the sims 3 icon, the launcher will show, and if i click on it through origin, again the launcher will show. But now the origin site just flashes when i click play. When i click the icon now, it just loads for a second then stops.

@cheemonga2003  You can try repairing TS3 in Origin—right-click on the game icon in your library.  You can also clear Origin's cache, and if that doesn't help, uninstall and reinstall Origin itself.  This would not affect your installed games.

It might also be worth trying the clean folder test.  Drag your existing TS3 folder out of Documents and onto your desktop.  When (and if) the game loads again, it will spawn a clean folder.  If you can play in this folder, you can move your existing saves and other content into it from your old folder.
