Sims 3 Installer Not Working MAC

Hello!

I have recently ran into a problem with my Sims 3 Installer, ya know, that one that installs all of your CC and wateva!

Here's some more info on my silly problem:

Sooo before i downloaded some mods for my game that i throw into my packages folder, my CC installer was working fine, it was popping up with the little box with the download progress bar working all perfect and now for some reason that does not come up anymore, when i double click a .sims3pack to open it and install it a separate sims 3 pops up but has no window and seems to not do anything at all, and Ive also noticed a change in my launchers appearance, when i scroll down on my "DOWNLOADS" tab it seems to be very laggy and slow and there is a strange white/translucent bar that has now replaced the existing blue on the "ITEM", "STATUS", "TYPE" and "SIZE" columns. Ive taken out some mods and put them aside in a new folder on my desktop and tried running the game and downloading a .sims3pack and still the launchers changed appearance stays the same and still no installer box popping up but a new sims 3 pops up at the bottom in my dock, and after a while of running it says "APPLICATION NOT RESPONDING" and gives me the option to force quit it, so really i cant download any .sims3pack files because my installer is broken!

Ive tried converting .sims3pack files to .packages and had absolutely no hope in that what-so-ever! ☹️

So really i'm kinda stuck here figuring out what to do and Ive resorted to asking here, but as u can see... I need help fixing my Sims 3 Installer! (AND PLEASE SUGGEST MAC-FRIENDLY FIXES!)

Thanks, Gracie

  • @Grac6  Okay, what happens if you move an already downloaded file from Downloads in your old game folder to your new one?  Then you can manually open the launcher, click on Downloads, and then check the box and Install.  Does this work?  Make sure you're trying a download that predates your upgrade; you can see the date created in the Finder.

Also, are you using any third-party apps to manage your custom content?  If so, disable or uninstall them temporarily.

  • @Grac6  Mac-friendly fixes are the entire purpose of this section, but the fixes for bad cc are mostly the same in either OS.  It does sound like you have some bad file, especially since the launcher isn't working properly.  I know you removed your Mods folder, but you could still have a corrupt file somewhere else. The first suspect is your highest numbered .dbc file in DCCache, as that's where your newest cc will have landed.  If removing that one file fixes your issues, you'll need to delete it and reinstall the content inside, but that's easier than rebuilding your entire TS3 game folder.

If removing the one .dbc file doesn't help, though, it's probably best to start with a clean game folder.  Pull the existing one out of Documents and onto your desktop, and open the launcher to create a new one.  Then you can start by copying over Mods and testing your game.  If everything works, then your .package files are fine, and you can start adding Sims3Pack-based cc in batches and testing.  If the launcher stops working at any point, you'll need to split and test the last batch of files you added until you find the one(s) causing the problem.  There's no efficient way to identify bad content, other than testing it yourself.

It should also be noted that some of the tools used to manage cc don't work in mac OS, or work only intermittently.  One of them is Delphy's Multi Installer, the usual tool of choice for converting Sims3Packs into .package files.  (Another is CC Magic, which is finicky even in Windows.)  What you can do though is install a pack via the launcher and then grab the .package file(s) that land in DCBackup.  It's fine to rename them before dropping them in Mods\Packages; just make sure you don't change the .package extension.  That way, if you get a bad cc item, you can just delete the one .package file instead of sorting through the launcher's list.

Aw man, none of this works my installer window still doesn't pop up even when i remove my EA folder to my desktop and run the game to create a new clean one in documents, still when i go to download one small .sims3pack there is still no installer, just a new sims 3 pops up in the dock and nothing else happens not even any messages pop up. My launcher is still the same and looking buggy as ever (i will include some screenshots I'm not good at explaining how crazy it looks).

Thank ya for your attempt with helping me but this just didn't solve or help ;o

  • @Grac6  Did you recently update to Mojave?  The picture in your first screenshot looks like what I saw when dealing with Mojave recently, although the weird boxes went away when I moused over the tabs.

The reason I ask is that Mojave's security features are more stringent than what you might have had in Sierra or HS.  Third-party downloads may be blocked, sometimes even without notice, unless you allow them in your settings.  I haven't tried to install any packs into Mojave yet, so I don't know exactly what works and what doesn't.  But you can try moving an already downloaded pack into your clean folder—unless you removed them, the packs will still be in Downloads in your old folder.  If one pack installs properly, then it's not your launcher that's causing the problem.

To see whether a download has been blocked by your security settings, click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner of your screen, then select System Preferences, then Security and Privacy.  Under the General tab, you should see listed any recent blocked downloads.

Yes i have recently updated to Mojave from Sierra and i never had any problems with the Installer on Sierra. I have just tried what you suggested and still hasn't worked, there is no list of things it wants to download but doesn't download under General in Security & Privacy and it cant install CC or anything because the Installer still just doesn't want to show up, i right click on the "meant to be Installer" which is the new sims 3 that pops up in the dock when i double click to download a .sims3pack and click "Show all windows" and no windows come to the front, theres nothing there at all ☹️
