Sims 3 launch problems - weird debug message

Hi there,

I've been having trouble opening either my Sims 3 base game or my Sims 3 64-bit and metal game on my Mac (High Sierra, version 10.13.6).

As much as possible, I've tried repairing/updating both of the games. However, when I try to launch them:

1. The base game - when I initially try to start, I get a message that playing while the game is downloading something (see image attached), this might negatively affect gameplay. It isn't apparent that anything is downloading and there is nothing in the download manager, so this feels like a bug. If I ignore that message and attempt to launch the game away, I get beyond the loading screen, then a message pops up asking me to debug something (image attached). Regardless of whether I opt to debug or not, the game crashes at that stage.

2. the 64-bit game - when launching that, I get an error message saying that my base game is incompatible with my extension packs and the launch crashes.

I have tried debugging my Origin app with the Origin Troubleshooting.txt file. I guess the next step would be to try and reset my Origin as per this link (https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/) but I was wondering if anyone had any advice before this.

Thank you!

  • @MadsSims  For the 64-bit version's error, go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 and delete Version.tag.  You'll need to do this every time you switch game versions because the 32-bit and 64-bit versions both write to this Sims 3 folder.

The download in progress error should be cleared up with an Origin reset perhaps followed by repairing the game, which you can do by right-clicking the game tile and selecting Repair.

If you want to address the 32-bit issue as well, let me know.  But unless you have a specific reason for running that version too, it's probably easier to just stick with the 64-bit version.
