Sims 3 Mac Settings Always Low

So as the title says, for some reason on mac, no matter what I do or change, the settings are ALWAYS on low. The only one that seems to work if I change it is lot quality which I dont really care for. I just want my sims to not be ugly in game is there ANY way to fix this or to have SOME improvement? I have a Macbook Air M2.

  • z0z55  Do the settings show as the lowest options on the Graphics Settings page?  Or do they show as whatever you chose, but the game still looks to be low quality?  Have you checked the Advanced Rendering box on the same page?  Not doing so makes the game look low-quality at any settings.

Whenever you change any graphics settings, it's best to do so at the Main Menu and then quit to desktop before loading a save.  If you didn't do this before, that might explain what you're seeing.

If the above doesn't help, please delete Options.ini, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3, and load the game again.  This will reset all the graphics options.  Change what you want at the Main Menu, quit to desktop, reload the game, and see how it looks AND whether the settings you've chosen stuck.

Hi so they show as what I chose in options but the game still looks low quality. I have checked Advanced Rendering too. I tried the things you suggested but nothings changed.

  • z0z55  Please post a couple of screenshots of what you mean by low quality.  Shadows are a particular problem in macOS, and this is a game limitation rather than anything on the system side.  Textures are also lower-resolution in live mode than in CAS, which has been a problem for many years on any system.  So I want to make sure what you're seeing is in fact a separate issue rather than how the game usually looks.

Here are some screenshots, I know live mode is usually a bit lower-res than in CAS but it never was this bad on my PC. I was able to get a ton of mods of the environment which helped with that but the sims themself are the issue.

  • z0z55  This is just how the sims look, unfortunately:

I've never seen a way to improve this other than various cc-related interventions.

  • It’s a bit disappointing that the textures are just like that on Mac, I’ll try to make the best of it for now. Let me know if you figure out any other tips. Thanks again.
