Sims 3 Medical Career eternally late to work?

I have the base game, Ambitions, Showtime, Generations, Fast Lane, Town Life and High End. My sim has the World Renowned Surgeon wish. Up until I got to the Gene Therapist job everything is fine, but now when I look at the career slot, it always says I'm missing work and when I go to the hospital I have to work until 1pm, an hour BEFORE my official job time ends. Is there anyway to fix this, or am I just going to have to work forever until I reach the top and retire?
