sims 3 not loading

hey guys

ive been playing sims 3 for about 6 years now and its my most favorite. i had it downloaded on my dads windows desktop and had no problem playing it. but in 2020, he bought me an imac so i downloaded everything on here. sims 4 works fine, but sims 3 didnt work anymore when i updated to catalina. sometime last year i contacted support and they were able to download the 64 bit version for the game and my expansion packs (late night, high loft, back to the future, pets, and seasons). everything worked fine, up until i downloaded some cc. im not sure which file, but i assume one of the files was corrupt, because the game unexpectedly quits. im able to launch it, get through the whole intro, but just as the game is about to fully load, the game just exits out of itself.

i have deleted every single cc, deleted the cache files numerous times, uninstall and reinstall the game and every expansion pack multiple times, restart my imac, repair the game, update the game.... nothing works. i have no idea what went wrong but its very annoying.

help?

  • @jewelbyrnes  Please move your entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you open the launcher, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just see whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that works, you can move your saves and other content from the old Sims 3 folder to the new one.  But move the files over a little at a time and keep testing to make sure the game still loads properly.  If and when it doesn't, you'll know that one of the last files you moved over is the issue, and you can split that last batch and test until you find out which one.

If the game won't load even with a clean folder before you've added anything to it, please let me know whether you use iCloud and if so, whether it's currently full or close to it.
