Sims 3 on Yosemite OS X

Before updating to OS X Yosemite on my macbook pro, the sims 3 was working fine, just a little slow, which is why I updated in the first place, after being told it will help my computer run faster. But now, whenever I try to open the sims 3, I get this message:

"Video Hardware Acceleration Required

Video hardware acceleration is currently disabled due to safe mode operation or a driver error

Please ensure you have a working OpenGL Hardware Renderer and try again"

I have no idea what this means. I tried looking it up and am not finding anything to help me. What did Yosemite do to me? Can I ever play my game again?

Please help!

    Hi

Is everything else working correctly (other than The Sims 3 I mean)?Do you only get this message when you open the game, not any other applications?

Check that there are no Apple updates.

I googled the error message and found this, which as some suggestions that appear to have worked for a simmer with a similar issue:
