Sims Medieval Error 16 on Windows 11

I recently got a new PC laptop running Windows 11 and decided to try and download my old Sims Medieval game through the EA desktop app. The game downloads fine and I can play it no problem, but as soon as I try to save the game I get an Error Code 16. I've read online that this usually means there isn't enough space to save the game file, but this can't be the problem as I have more than 300 GB free. I've read that unlinking onedrive can help, but when I tried that I still got the error code.

Is it possible to play this game on Windows 11? Does anyone have a fix or workaround for the Error Code 16 on Windows 11? Thanks 🙂

  • @Mayaaleah  Does this happen when using a simple, short save name with no special characters?  That would be the first thing to try.

The next step would be to (temporarily) disable your antivirus, just long enough to launch the game and try to save.  If this helps, you'd need to set an exception for TSM.exe and probably another one for EADesktop.exe to be thorough.

If that's not the issue, a quick test is to create a new admin Windows account and play there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it with your Microsoft account.  The idea here is to see whether the game can write the save data to the fresh Documents folder that comes with the new account.  If it can, the problem is in your main account; otherwise, it's elsewhere.
