Sims Won't Go To Work

I wanted to set up a historical sims town that takes place in colonial times and gradually moves through history into the present day. So, I deleted all of the lots on in Sunset Valley and started my town fresh. Now, I'm starting to add in pre-built lots so that my sims can go to work. So, currently, I have about 10 residential lots, 8 public lots (parks and a library), and 2 work lots. The work lots I placed are the Little Corsican Bistro and the Police Station. I want my sims to be able to work as a cop or a chef, but once they get the job, they never actually go to work.

I will get a pop-up saying that they have work in 1 hour, but a car never comes to pick them up. When I take them to the work location, the "work" option is grayed out. It says that work doesn't start for X-hours. If work starts at 9am, and I click on the "work" button at 9am, it says that my sim doesn't have work and should come back tomorrow. I read a few forums that said you should put your sim into their work uniform ahead of time, and that should make the go-to-work interaction work again. However, my sim didn't even have a career outfit. I made him a career outfit using the nRaas mod, but he still can't go to work.

I have also tried the investigator career, and that doesn't work either. My sim gets hired, but when I send him to the police station to "obtain investigator case", he goes in and comes out but nothing happens. This is very frustrating! How am I supposed to make my sims go to work when none of the careers are functioning?

Please help!!!

  • @tlobliviate  As an experiment, have the sims quit their jobs (which they can do over the phone), bulldoze the two rabbitholes, use NRaas MasterController to remove their career outfits if necessary, then save, quit, and delete the five cache files in the Sims 3 user folder.  For reference, they are:

    • CASPartCache.package
    • compositorCache.package
    • scriptCache.package
    • simCompositorCache.package
    • socialCache.package

Reload your save, place one of the rabbitholes, and give a different sim a job there.  (You don't have to save your progress; this is just for testing.)  Let me know whether the sim is willing to go to work.  If not, did you make any mod-related changes to this world to keep it in historical times?  It's possible one of those changes is interfering.

@puzzlezaddict Thank you so much for your response, but unfortunately, my sims still won't go to work. I didn't change anything with my mods, so I really don't understand why it isn't working.

@tlobliviate  Please try without any mods, just to make sure those aren't the issue now.  Even if you didn't change anything, it's still possible for some mod setting to be interfering.  You can use "save as" to rename the save, so the original remains intact as a backup, then experiment on the new copy.

Be sure to delete the cache files after removing mods, or adding them back for that matter.

@puzzlezaddict Hi. I tried again without mods, and I'm having the same problem. My other game files seem to be mostly working. But, the education career at the school is not working. Everything else seems ok. So, I'm not sure what to do.
Do you think if I saved all of my sims and remade the town in another save file, that that could solve the problem?

@tlobliviate  I think that should work yes.  In your position, I'd periodically test the save to make sure sims can go to work—place the rabbitholes early if you have to, then quit without saving when you're done.  And make a backup copy of the save each time you test, so if you see the issue again, you can revert to that save rather than starting from scratch.  That way, you won't find yourself having done all this work only to run into the same problem.

Your NRaas mods should be fine to use, and in fact should help prevent this error and others.

@puzzlezaddict Thank you for all your help! I definitely will take your advice and start making backup copies of my game files, because this kind of stuff seems to happen to me a lot.
