Textures look awful in fullscreen??

EDIT: How strange!! I was first planning to ask the question as "Environment textures look awful", but when I took a screenshot using the in-game camera to give an example of what it looks like, the screenshots looked amazing! So I thought of taking a screenshot manually using ALT-prtscr, and when I turned off fullscreen mode to do this the game instantly looked incredible. I can't imagine what's causing this... the game is definitely much more pleasing to look at this way, but if I'm not in fullscreen, I have to set the resolutuon to the highest setting to fit my 4k monitor, which of course makes the UI and all the buttons incredibly tiny and completely unusable... ☹️  Any ideas??

(The original post I had typed out before I discovered the fullscreen thing):

I'm so sorry if this has been answered before, but I can't seem to find any screenshots that look similar to what my game currently looks like ☹️

My sims themselves look fine (at least, to me), but I can't get over how horrible everything else looks. Furniture looks blurry, floors look blurry, patterns look blurry, and oh god everything outside looks like this is some knockoff test game. It's particularly terrible at night; no textures a couple meters away from the camera loads.

  • @marunouchisdstk  Please take a photo (with your cell phone camera) of your in-game settings in fullscreen mode and post it here.  As long as it's reasonably legible, e.g. I can make out the resolution, it's fine.

Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

And go into Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, open deviceconfig.log, copy the two lines under Ratings Info (right at the top), and past them here.

  • Thank you for the reply! I've found somewhat of a solution; I'm currently running the game in windowed mode and lowed my monitor's resolution to fit it every time I play. After some more looking around, it seems this is common problem with 4k users :") Classic EA

@marunouchisdstk  You could try Windowed Borderless Gaming (free download) instead.  It's the usual "borderless" mode experience: a fullscreen game window with the functionality of windowed mode.

  • Ah, I tried that the other day but unless the in-game resolution exactly fits the one of your monitor, the window only shows up as a small box in the corner of your screen :') It seems the only fix is to lower my monitor resolution. It does suck not being able to play with top-notch graphics, but I'm still glad that both the textures and UI are visible this way! (even if it is a pain in the butt)

@marunouchisdstk  If you'd still like to troubleshoot, I'd be happy to look over a dxdiag and see whether there's anything obvious that might be fixable.  But if you're reasonably happy with your current workaround, then it might not be worth spending the time.
