The Sims 3 Seasons will not launch/start

I just downloaded and installed seasons off of origins (reinstalled about 4 times already), and it will not launch. When I try to play it through the launcher, the launcher either minimizes or closes, and it does not start. When I bypass the launcher, nothing happens. Game does not start. Game is up to date, no mods or custom data. When I start the launcher, Seasons shows up as installed. Have uninstalled and reinstalled both the base game and seasons. If I uninstall seasons, then the base game works again.

Playing on a laptop with Windows 8, and my specs exceed the minimum requirements. I know people who have played it with Windows 8, so that is not a problem.

Any help would be appreciated. If this can't be solved, how do I go about getting a refund through Origin?
