University Life - aptitude test issues

My sims just got back from their first term at uni as Communication Majors. Even though they had gained 4 levels in writing and 3 in photography, when they retook the aptitude test, their scores did not change at all. Does anyone know why this is happening and what the solution is? 

BTW I've tried both resetting my sims and buying a new university basket. I also started a new game, but the issue persists 😕mileyfrustrated:
