"Create a Save"

For many players, the starting save in The Sims 4 is not appealing or fun to play in, especially after your hundredth playthrough or so. Some people circumvent this problem by downloading custom saves made by other players or building their own save. I have done both many times and I'm currently in the process of building another save. It's a long and tedious process but it's worth it because the end result is playing in a game filled with buildings and townies that I wholeheartedly approve of.

However, I think that the Sim Gurus could give us some tools to make the process of building your own save more efficient and engaging. I'm not the best at formatting so let me just list what I think a "Create a Save" mode would look like:

  • A special create a sim mode where you can fine-tune many details of a sim's life. Choose sims' skill levels, traits, and appearance for ALL life stages. This would mean that each townie would already have their own predetermined outfits and traits for every age.
  • Create your own NPCs to fill up various jobs and give them hidden traits that prevent them from aging or dying so you never have to worry about bizarre townies generating to fill their spots
  • Story progression*; this is where things may get a bit complicated: Set relationships and predetermined life paths for unplayed sims. The paths can be linear or branch out to include different outcomes Ex: Don Lothario may marry Katrina or get kicked out of her house for cheating, Johnny Zest may either reconcile with his family or continue to pursue his career in entertainment etc.
  • Lock certain sims to only appear in specific worlds, neighborhoods, and lots
  • Choose a "starting event" for each neighborhood or world that occurs when you move in a new household Ex: In most parts of Willow Creek, you get a small welcome wagon, but in the Fashion District of San Myshuno, you get a large housewarming party

I had more to write but I unfortunately lost my first draft so feel free to add more ideas (or challenge them, if you disagree)

And before you say it, I know some features here can be done without an official "developer tool"; you can download an empty world save to start on a clean canvas and you can give townies certain skills, traits, and jobs with the use of mods and cheats, but the purpose of my proposed idea is to make the process of shaping your own save less gimmicky and more streamlined.

*I'm hoping that many of the features mentions in the previous community surveys are added to TS4 in the future. Seeing the possibility of story progression, improved traits/emotions, and a memory system being added to the game gives me a little bit of hope that we can finally play the way we want to play, without frivolous restrictions. With the potential addition of those features I think "Create a Save" would be a huge step to vastly improve a TS4 player's experience
  • Honestly, I'll just be happy if they give us the ability to choose to start with either all the buildings but none of the pre-made households or no pre-made lots (except, maybe, apartments and special lots like the laboratory or the magic HQ) and no pre-made sim households when we go into a new save. Just give me the option of starting a game with all the worlds clean of Maxis lots and Maxis sims so I don't have to make and maintain a reserve clean save just to get the same starting experience I enjoyed in TS2 when I make a custom neighborhood. Building new buildings as I need them is part of the fun for me, not an arduous chore. I've developed some of my favorite TS2 towns that way.

Some of your ideas reminds me of what was in Sims 3. I so miss it & wished it was put in Sims 4.
