A Dream of Easter
Gallery link
This is an entry for Rosemow's room challenge. The theme was "An Easter Kitchen". My entry can be found here.
This challenge was easier because I immediately got many associations thinking about the Easter celebration. As I explained in the entry, I am Norwegian, so our Easter is a little different than the traditional American Easter. Not only that, but we actually have the longest Easter holiday in the world. A lot of our traditions are in fact caused by the fact that we have such a long holiday.
The Norwegian traditional Easter is celebrated at a cabin in the mountains, eating oranges and Kvikk Lunch chocolate (kind of like a Kit Kat chocolate), and skiing. Some, like my family, do prefer to celebrate at home though.
We decorate in bright yellow colors, as this is the Easter color, and we tend to decorate using chickens rather than bunnies. Although the Easter bunny and the egg hunt is part of the tradition also in Norway, it was never really a feature in my family. I never knew anyone that had these either when growing up. I think this will be different in different families. In my family we never went on an egg hunt, we simply got the egg full of candy on Easter Saturday. Nonetheless, it was something to look forward to as a kid!
With this in mind an inspiration for the room slowly assembled itself. I knew I wanted it to be bright yellow, I knew I wanted it to be rustic and a country style kitchen to fit a cabin, and I knew I wanted to emphasize chickens rather than bunnies. I am really happy with how the room turned out, and it really *is* Easter to me.
