⚙️ Feature refresh : Traits (2014)
Hi,
An upgrade for the traits to give a bigger role to play in the everyday life. The adult sims can have up to 6 traits but they are useless 99% of the time.
Actually the traits target to a small range of situations, for example Shady trait is designed for one task "Business".
It could be :
- Off-screen activities/careers : Adding texts/outcomes specific to a trait.
- Trait Perks : Showing clearly what abilities and weaknesses are unlocked by each trait.
- Specific skill rewards : Good sims shouldn't use their Cooking skill the same way as Evil/Mean sims (cooking poisoned food).
- Trait weight : Splitting traits between major full-time traits and minor part-time traits requiring a context to work (Vegetarian trait requires Food context). It could be like LotTrait/Lot Challenge a limited number Major Traits (Personality Trait) but an unlimited number of Minor Traits (Personality Challenge). Only the Major Traits would get a deeper gameplay (perks, rewards and specific off-screen actions).
In most of games you can choose an assassin or a mage, it unlocks specific abilities. A mage can use magic and an assassin is stealthy. But in The Sims, the players aren't rewarded for their choice, there is no meaningful gain to assign traits.
Generally I pick mage or assassin classes because I don't like to fight so I prefer to summon creatures who will fight for me or be stealthy to skip combats, this choice improve the life of my character and my game experience. In The Sims 4 when I picked Active trait I wanted my sims be able to enjoy Fitness/sport activities but now this trait became outdated with Likes & Dislikes and all the features boosting Fitness skill. When I look at all the traits, I don't feel that they will make my game experience better or different and there are many other features in the game (Club, Lot traits, NAP, ...) which can override/neutralize traits.
