🍂 Seasons EP refresh

Hi,

EP05 Seasons has several weaknesses compared to the previous games :

  • Lack of features (Snowy Escape, Island Living and other packs have stole several parts.)
  • No new world (probably due to the Winter update for the existing worlds)
  • Calendar became a basegame feature
  • New packs are designed for sunny weather (Festivals not designed for rain and snow, treehouse not designed for seasons, no snow for Ravenwood, Home Chef Hustle not designed for rain)
  • Snowy Escape has its own weather
  • No new occult (Previously TS2 had Plantsims and TS3 had Aliens)
  • No Hail weather
  • "Indoor rain/snow" bug
  • Umbrella bugs

So it would be nice if Maxis could refresh this "expansion" pack and add a few things :

  • Swimming pool activities (Slide, ...)
  • Raincoat outfit category as an alternative to umbrellas
  • Igloo (Woohoo spot)
  • Ice lounge
  • Mischievous lightning power (start a fire or summon thunderstorm or fully recharge servos)Smart thermostat upgrade

  • Is it strange that I don't miss hail that much? Hail is a phenomenon that happens in severe thunderstorms not in the middle of nowhere like in TS2 and TS3. So it's always kinda immersion breaking for me.

Certainly, they could implement hail within thunderstorms. I also think that wind damage is sorely missing. Just minor stuff like tree branches falling on the ground and having to clean them up after a storm.

I also wish The Sims would implement freezing rain. It'd be funny to have Sims slipping and sliding not on powdery snow (although I can't complain - I've done that IRL... recently. >.< lol), but on a simple frozen layer of ice on the ground. Wouldn't be technically too hard to implement I don't think.

This is a small non-gameplay related thing but it's a peeve I have had with every Seasons EP so far: Why don't some trees bloom in the Spring before turning to leaves? This is what makes Spring IRL visually distinct from summer, and yet in no The Sims game have they ever represented that.  Instead we have some trees eternally in bloom which is really bizarre. Cherry blossoms don't look like that outside of the Spring!

Another non-gameplay one: Improve the rain effects. I'm not alone in calling for this. We should see raindrops fall on the ground, we should see raindrops dripping off of stuff, and the windows should have raindrops running down them.

  • i won't mind if it doesn't come as a world but if they do decided to add a world i think plantsims will be more usefull there (maybe it's because i grew up with The Sims 2) with maybe 4 neighbourhoods and each event based on 1 of these seasons

like maybe you can decorate pumpkin during halloween in the autumn/fall neighbourhood

summer activities in the summer neighbourhood

easter activities in the spring neighbourhood

christmas activities in the winter neighbourhood

(just to name a few of course)

nature stuff that becomes functional you can actually take care of them (The Sims 2 had them) the grasses, the trees, the flowers, the plants and if these are death the plantsims can bring it back to life again

more water activities like some sort of water sport like water competitions

that will be a lot more usefull if it comes with a world

i know there's calendar for it to disable things such as christmas and valentinesday activities but i rather have them in the event similair to San Myshuno, Henford-On-Bagley and a few other worlds

we can always have a party you have a day off from school and work and do packs that complement with Seasons since calendar became a basegame thingy (think about some party like My Wedding Stories, Growing Together and other parties that comes with other packs)

i agree with stuff you've mentioned that isn't designed for other worlds such as like a market you can sell things, that should change

i won't be upset if they won't add seasons as a new world but i think based on my ideas it should come as a new world

i do agree it should come as a refresh/overhaul for better gameplay

  • 2 days or so ago i asked ChatGPT about a pack based on a certain country and i stumbled into something that match with Seasons

    traits:

-Tradition Keeper: they're happy when participating holidays and/or festivals but they get tense if holidays are missed

-Rain Romantic: they loves the rain and even get inspired when walking in the rain, they can listen to rainfall

-Festival Spirit: they get energized during parties and/or parades but they get a boring moodlet if no social events are happening

    aspirations:

    -Celebrate The Seasons

    -Master Of Folklore

    Social events:

    -Binche Carnaval (Spring)

    -Saint Nicholas Celebration (Winter)

    -Ommegang Medieval Pageant (Summer)

-Rainy Day Cafe Poetry Slam (Autumn)

-Ardennes Nature Walks (All Year Around)

☝️all these match with Seasons perfectly in my opinion☝️

Rain is not just for gloomy sims.

Rain is so romantic and cleansing for the natural environment. Kissing in the rain is a romantic buff.

i just had a thought on this

what if it comes with a world we can have a small frog market you can not only buy frogs but also sell them to earn money similar to what they did with innisgreen with buying and selling fish? (just came up with this)

  • What I wish most for as an update for Seasons (and what's probably the most realistic) are updated holidays.

It would be great to get

    • more icons
    • more holiday activities related to recent packs
    • updated holiday preferences for newer traits and likes and dislikes

This and a revamped calendar for the basegame with better filtering and customized notifications for festivals.

I would love more seasonal activities especially for spring and fall. Summer and winter got several activities, but spring and fall feel really missing? What do we get for spring? Play in mud/rain puddles? The flower bunny tradition? Meh. Let sims plant things, pick flowers and make flower crowns maybe, would go with the flower bunny bit and actually give them something to do. And fall gets... the puddles again, and the leaf piles. The leaf piles are fun! I like having my sims rake their yards and then play in the piles, but it's basically the only fall activity? Let my sims collect colourful leaves! Let them fly kites. This is the fall activity I'm most disappointed about not having. So many worlds in the game have lots of windy fall days. Perfect for kite flying!

And yes, the holiday activities absolutely need updates! Club activities and now the small business activities have been getting cross pack integration, it's so disappointing that holidays were never updated for new pack activities. It's such a cool flexible features to customise our sims' lives, I use it so much in my game, but already the holiday activities that came with the Seasons pack are pretty limited. I have to download cc activities to make holidays around seasonal activities from the seasons pack! Why do I need a mod to get "play in leaf pile" as activity? Why is that not part of the pack? Why are the various "do seasonal activities" selectable as club and small business activities, but not as holiday traditions?

Activities from the Snowy Escape pack would be great for additional winter activities. Spooky stuff has Halloween traditions. New Year's Eve with fireworks.

But what I most miss is cultural traditions from more cultures? They gave things neutral names like Flower Bunny and Winterfest, and you do get trationals like lighting menorahs rather than Christmas trees, but it's still pretty limited. The game has so many different sim cultures by now, based on so many real world cultures. Why are my Sulani sims, who live in a world with its own district culture, stuck celebrating Winterfest? I want to make island holidays with island traditions for them (and I do, but it requires mods, thank you modders). The sims of Mt Komorebi also would really like to celebrate their holidays, maybe with nice family hot pot meals. Let my sims celebrate Carnival with colourful outfits/costumes. We got Día de los Muertos outfits a while ago, where are the traditions to match it?

We also have all this pride merch, but with the existing traditions, it's really hard to make holidays for it that really work.

And let me decide which surprise holidays I want in my game. I find talk like a pirate day hilarious, but neighbourhood brawl and the lottery day? Meh! And I know other players who hate the pirate day, so please let us pick which holidays we want to play with.

I also would like to be able to have activity events and events with goals on holidays. I can have base game dates on holidays! Base game dates are goaled events! Why are they the only goaled event that works?

  • If there would be one single thing I wish could be added to Seasons, it would be that the Sentiments from the festivals in Snowy Escape would also be added to the main calendar holidays that automatically are added to the calendar with the pack. I understand it would be difficult, maybe too difficult, to add customizable Sentiments for custom holidays. But if we could at least get Sentiments for the main holidays, that would make playing them a lot more rewarding.

If there would be a second thing I wish could be added, it would be to second what Speedy1236 said and that there would be a way to use the Pride objects with a holiday more easily. Or more generally, tying objects to holidays. Right now, it's rather difficult to create custom holidays that use objects to their fullest, and that could be improved.
