Adventure Awaits Official Trailer Feedback

I just watched the official trailer for the new expansion pack, Adventure Awaits.

For anyone who hasn't seen it yet:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS0NxrRJm6I

My thoughts:

I am surprisingly interested in this pack despite not having what I expected and wanted. From the theme I expected hotels, create a world, theme park stuff, maybe a safari or zoo, etc.

Where is the adventure part? It's called Adventure Awaits, I expected an Indiana Jones level of Adventure.

Despite being interested, I will not buy it until the bug fixes for the game, and especially the save file corruption and For Rent bugs are fixed. I'm not buying anything that will add more lots and files to my game when more lots and items trigger the save file corruption bug.

The trailer showed really varied content, but it doesn't seem to have a cohesive theme. They tried, but it's a lot of stuff that should have been in previous packs.

I like the new items, the children's playground equipment and slides. But that should have been part of the Parenthood pack, or Growing together pack.

The imaginary friend should have been in Parenthood.

The camp stuff and the careers should be part of Outdoor Retreat.

The water slides and diving boards for pools are cool, but should have been part of Seasons, or Get Together.

The exercise bikes are finally here, but they should have been a part of City Living, Get famous, Growing Together, or Businesses and Hobbies. Or even base game.

The functional weights should have been a part of Lovestruck.

The competition dating component should have been a part of Love Struck.

Kayaking should have been part of Outdoor Retreat or Island Living.

Diving off of docks should have been part of Island Living.

These items should all have been added as in-game pack refreshes.

I do think that there is finally a good amount of new content and new gameplay features in a pack for once. The amount of new content finally seems worth it.

But what IS this pack? The leftover ideas pack? This reminds me of the My First Pet Stuff pack that was just stuff that should have been included in Cats and Dogs. It seems really cash-grabby and poor planning. These all belong in previous packs.

I do want the playgrounds, slides, and exercise bikes.  The competition dating scenario thing is intriguing.

But this is the sort of thing I'll wait to buy in a few years, after all the bugs are fixed and it's 75% off.

I'm not sure I want to be investing more money in a game that is so unstable with so many bugs.

Will I even be able to play it if I keep buying packs?

I agree on the kid part, but the social experiment thing doesn't really seem like it "goes" for me.  It's not an adventure I'd want to be part of, I admit.

  • "Adventure Awaits" makes me think of scout jamboree themes. Honestly, some Sim packs sound like these, actual scout jamboree themes are: Face New Adventures, Growing Together, and Bravely. They sound a bit gimmicky, but I think AA is on point if that is the aim they were getting at. Instead of calling it "Getaways", "Vacation Getaways", "Outdoors & Activities", "Outdoor Getaway", etc.

Or it reminds me of WildPlay (which advertise "adventure courses", ziplines, and bungy jumping). Making outdoor courses, and child to adult outdoor activities sound more hyped and exciting, than just an outdoor activity course.

But I admit when I think of the word "Adventure" + "Sims", I automatically think World Adventures, and where is my tomb raiding?! by default.

"Adventure" from kids point of view, kid imagination with the playground tower and the imaginary friend.

Social adventure with Challenge / Elimination system (Big Brother TV show social experiment)

I was thinking something similar.  The information we have about the pack doesn't really say adventure to me.  It says more "family vacation/holiday" (depending on where in the world you live).

Someone said it was Sesame Street coded. The legs sure look like Big Bird's.

  • Still waiting...for more info

The imaginary friend coming back is good and creepy all at once...I just can't accept that little doll after sims 3.

I just hope the doll doesn't take over the whole game. Imaginary friends are real sims if you bring them to life but it's still a creepy doll.

  • The pack does seem to be a heterogeneous compilation of features/items, and if one is to look at previous packs could easily assign these features/items these previous packs. If they were previously shelved/in progress features/items that did not make it to previous packs or not—I guess is only speculation. But as some pointed out dumbbells did appear to be planned or at least teased for LS, and as others have mentioned some themes/items seem to be dead ringers for refreshes or redone content of previous packs.

At this point maybe this is just a placeholder pack to lump in a lot of features/items that didn't make it to other packs due to budgeting or timing constraints. But I do not think this makes people want the features/items any less. But may have some wondering why they weren't refreshes/updates? And I think the bottom line is just money. Refreshes/updates wouldn't make them money (or enough money if it convinced people to purchase packs they otherwise skipped beforehand).

If this is right or wrong or fair, I guess, is the community conversation at this time. I personally, haven't played Sims 4 long enough (since L&D) or have enough packs (less than half and no kits) to have a firm or strong opinion on the matter. But I know for a fact many people who have been playing for years, and have all or nearly all packs are showing concern to upset.
