Becoming a Fairy- WAY too simple! (AND EVERYTHING ELSE, TOO!)

Watching James Turner play Enchanted by Nature. Fairies are ridiculously simple to become and then ridiculously overpowered. To become a fairy, you do a handful of simple steps that take 40 in-game minutes and you're set for life. Then you no longer have a Hunger or Bladder need ever again, and can use a single low-price fairy house object to fill all your needs whenever you want. So in just a few real world minutes any Sim can become basically permanently happy and all-powerful forever. What's the point of even playing the game then?

You can buy an apothecary item for 20 simoleons that fills ALL your motives, removes ALL your negative moodlets, and fixes your balance. Enchanting a gnome to garden for you makes ALL your plants bloom INSTANTLY, and the gnome drops rare and expensive seed packets that can give you death flowers with literally no effort. None of this is balanced, this is all just cheating- there's no gameplay here, what are you doing? Why is none of this even attempting to be a video game anymore, this is all just play-around-whatever nonsense that completely destroys the GAME part of the game!

-You get a seedling, either by...asking someone you just met to hand you one, or buying it on the computer
-You plant the seed
-You get a text box popup before planting the seed warning you that you're gonna summon mother nature IMMEDIATELY by doing so
-The seed is placed on the ground, and sprouts instantly
-The seed disappears and does not have to grow or anything
-You drink a potion
-You go swim in a pond and become a fairy

Are you for real? This is worse than "Gather Motes" to become a spellcaster. There's no time investment whatsoever, there's no difficulty, you don't have to find the seed or do any quests or anything to get it, you literally ask for it (Or buy it on the COMPUTER? REALLY?) and you're a fairy within 40 seconds.

This pack comes with another questing system, so why isn't something like this tied to quests? This occult requires a seedling and a plant, so why don't you have to prove your worth by successfully growing the plant? You're telling me an evil man who lives in an industrial neighborhood and has no skills or abilities or friends whatsoever can just throw a seed he got off the computer into the dirt, instantly have it germinate, and get magic fairy powers from mother nature who doesn't sense anything off about this request?

There's no gameplay to this whatsoever, there might as well just be a "become a fairy" button you get when you click on your SIm. I rarely call content in games "lazy" but this is LAZY.

Yeah simply having to have done a quest for each person in Innisgreen, or even doing a few quests each, or- get this- having a quest LINE that you have to follow? Like how hard can it be. Those quests are tracked per household I think so maybe not ideal for a house of multiple wannabe fairies but then you can just give the first the power to distribute it to their household.

It seems like they just completely glossed over the "how to become a fairy" part and saved making it until the budget was gone!

  • Yes I agree. I have to heavily mod my game plus put many self made restrictions on my game play to have at least the bare minimum of some kind of a challenge. I understand this game is in category of cozy games but even those have usually many requirements to achieve things.

How possible is it to mod in bladder and hunger to fairies? I would be totally ok with having to manage those on top of the emotional force because right now my fairy is basically about to be rich rich and already almost maxed out and it’s only been a few days and most of my time has been spend in CAS so yeah, it’s too easy.

  • I have to agree. It's like hardly anything new was actually programmed for people to do. The history of the sims franchise shows that this is still supposed to be a game and a simulator, not Barbie's pretend dreamhouse. Considering we can easily turn any Sim into a Fairy with a single cheat and a quick visit to CAS, there should have been a gardening quest of some sort for at least the first Sim in a household to become a Fairy. Then, sure, they probably could make it a little easier for the rest as an option for those who want it.

I don't know what's going on with EA lately, but after so many years of teasers for Fairies, I expected at least some gameplay depth here. This pack really comes off like it was done in three months. I know people say this a lot, but it plays like a Game Pack. Not enough Fairy CAS, not enough actual gameplay, and most of the gameplay that exists is just runoff from existing features like gardening, off-the-grid, Eco Living, potions/herbalism, Werewolf sleeping and foraging, Get to Work illness, the Life and Death "mystical" swimming hole and Cottage Living quests. (Why in the world do Fairies go into water to get wings? It doesn't even make sense!) Not a lot of new ideas in here and we still don't have a lot trait to draw all Occults.

So can we finally be done with gardening packs now? It's been done to death and it's ridiculous how many packs a player needs to get one complete feature.

  • I'm starting to think becoming a fairy was "cut content" at the last minute.

The fairy seedling you plant blossoms into the plant you're given in a bell jar after becoming a fairy, and is otherwise never available as a real plant, ever. You can only plant one again to summon mother nature. It really seems like there was meant to be a grow-this-plant-to-get-this-plant-to-summon-mother-nature quest or something. Some of the fables also seem to be designed to ease you into some stuff fairies might do.

After becoming a fairy though I've been pleasantly surprised at their gameplay loop, until you get several later level skills it's actually pretty engaging to have to go find ways to get emotional force. Granted a lot of it is still very overpowered (fairy houses are ridiculous, using the springs to get force back whenever you want is crazy OP, the teleport stone is INSANE and skips TENS of HOURS of gameplay...), but as a modder...uh, I'm just rebalancing all that myself lol.

This is such a weird take… Becoming an occult has never been difficult, and fairies aren’t even the most OP occult. I don’t see how fairies making the game “easier” breaks anything when the game is already stupid easy. You can get anything you want off the gallery, and that’s not even a cheat. That’s a feature we are expected to use. If fairies were “nerfed” doing the only ONE thing in this game they’re good at, then than just makes them inefficient. And let’s be so real right now. The quest is not worse than the spellcaster mote collection. That one was literally just 2 clicks. To this day, the witches are giving out arcane power like it’s candy. At least mother nature wants to talk to you first… is it still easy? Sure. But we can make everyone in CAS anyway. We already have the power to make fairies at the click of a button.

like, what’s the point of playing occults if they don’t have convenient or creative ways to interact with the game? Especially fairies who aren’t even magical generalists.
