Hot Take: Fireplaces Are Appliances
Objects by Function > Appliances > Fireplaces
Fireplaces are customarily considered an Appliance, like a heater or a furnace. Fireplaces serve a specific function: Generating heat. Fireplaces can warm-up rooms in cold weather with Seasons pack installed. Fireplaces can warm up chilled Sims.
Fireplaces are an Appliance by reason of:
- More functional than decorative
- Can be upgraded
- Sim can interact with Fireplaces
- Pose a fire risk, decorations do not
- Radiators and Space Heaters are listed in the Fireplace subcategory
Benefits for moving Fireplaces to Appliances:
- Provide a proper home for Fireplaces in the Off-The-Grid category
- Clear out Fireplaces from the Miscellaneous Off-The-Grid subcategory
- Move Fireplaces into Off-The-Grid > Appliances
- Open up a subcategory slot in Decorations for new subcategories
Gameplay opportunity
Update Fireplaces to include more interactions:
- Allow cleaning - Fireplaces can clog with soot = Upgrade: Self-cleaning
- Allow breakage - Uncleaned fireplaces can break = Upgrade: Unbreakable
- Mishap: Soot Cloud - covers Sim in ash, deplete hygiene, ash piles, smudged floor
[Seasons] gameplay:
- Description spec: Heat rating
- Footprint: Heat radius
- Upgrade: Increase Heat radius
More consideration: Wood burners/fire places not enough to keep sims warm
Objects by Function > Appliances > Heating & Cooling
Another option is to convert the Fireplaces category into a Heating & Cooling category and include cooling objects:
- Ceiling Fans
- Table Fans
- A/C units
- Floor Fans
When these objects are turned on with the [Seasons] pack installed, it would cool off a room.
Gameplay opportunity
Make these cooling objects functional:
- Allow breakage - Upgrade: Unbreakable
[Seasons] gameplay:
- Interaction: Cool Self
- Description spec: Cooling rating
- Footprint: Cooling radius
- Upgrade: Increase Cooling radius
IDEA: More Cooling objects
