I wish we could play as our pets just like we could in sims 3

Removing the ability to play as our pets was in my opinion a serious downgrade, and i never playing with cats or dogs or even horses because of this. 

We should be able to gain the ability to play as our pets again. 

Maybe we could give our pets the plumbob item from the ghost sims that moved onto the next world in order for us to gain the ability to control them again, That way we would have to work for it.
