Improving the Marketplace: Using Moola as a Budgeting Tool for All Packs

Hi Sims Team,

With the recent launch of the Marketplace, I’d like to suggest expanding the use of Moola to include all DLC—Expansion Packs, Game Packs, and Stuff Packs.

At the moment, the system feels a bit fragmented. Moola can be used for Kits, but Expansions require real-world currency. Offering both payment options for all content could create a more consistent and flexible experience.

For many players—especially those who are neurodivergent (such as ADHD) or managing a strict budget—the upfront cost of Expansion Packs can be a barrier. A more flexible system would make it easier to plan and save over time.

My proposal:

Steam-Wallet-Style System: Allow players to purchase small amounts of Moola whenever they have extra funds, effectively “banking” it for future Sims purchases. This would function similarly to a digital wallet and still supports ongoing revenue.

Visual Progress Tracking: Seeing a growing Moola balance in-game can be motivating, particularly for players who benefit from visible progress toward a goal.

Price Parity: Ensure that purchasing content with Moola in smaller increments doesn’t cost more overall than paying upfront. This could be balanced with pricing adjustments or a small incentive for Moola users.

This approach would transform the Marketplace into a helpful budgeting tool rather than just another storefront, making the game more accessible while still aligning with your business goals.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

  • Nope, that would ensure I never buy anything again.  It was a bad idea, not sure if their worst idea yet for this game, but it certainly cracks the top five.

NocturnalSyren, Moola is just in-game currency. In-game currency is widely considered a predatory monetization tactic. By using virtual coins or gems, games obscure real-world costs, encouraging overspending and impulse purchases. These systems often employ manipulative designs, such as uneven bundle pricing, to leave players with leftover, unusable currency and create psychological barriers to stopping.

This is why your suggestion would not do as you believe. It would actually cause a negative impact on those who are nerodiveginent. I say that as a fellow neuro-spicy individual.

The Moola is just a way to trick people into purchasing more. It would not solve like you are portraying.

  • Moola is NOT the answer. It only makes matters worse and if your read the forums more closely.... Not to mention other external blogs.... very few want this to begin with. To now bring larger DLC to this too.... for sure will send more Sims 4 players packing it in and calling it quits!

  • No. I REFUSE to purchase "Moola." If the packs requires that instead of real world currency it means I will not purchase anything whatsoever.  I refuse to buy kits for this alone, so if it was also done to stuff, game, amd expansion packs, that would mean I wouldn't purchase the dlc anymore.

    More opportunities:

It Pays to Play: Encourage players to log hours into playing The Sims 4 with a Moola-generation system where players accumulate Moola by actively playing The Sims 4 whether in CAS, build mode or live mode.

I agree, Moola should credit toward larger DLC purchases as a way to discount them, perhaps offering a Moola+Currency payment hybrid. Generating Moola through gameplay may motivate players to purchase larger packs using their Moola-play earnings to discount a pack's retail price. You'd basically be earning your own discount coupon by doing what we're already doing: playing the game.

Kit Sales / Kit Bundle: If Kits are going to be locked behind the Marketplace, then occasionally put Kits on sale or allow Kit-bundling for a discounted price. This is a popular player request on these forums.
