I've done it by adding the knitted items to the household then adding them as I would every other clothes item.
This. I've done this too. Although I think I used the cheat to unlock the knitted clothing in CAS. Then used that household to set up the store. Now my other sims can buy knitted clothes.
What do you mean by adding them to the household? I'm not aware of such as feature.
The same way as you add the knitted clothing so your own sims can wear them. I can't remember the exact terminology.
