Put to bed entirely broken and it's sad

Is it just me or is put to bed for children completely broken? Even when all three squares next to a bed are free, I get the pathing error complaint like something was in the way. The sims can even be both standing right next to it (child and the adult that wants to put them into bed) and they'll react like there's no way they could reach the bed or make space for the interaction. It's sad, since this is such a big part of parenting. It's broken no matter if the child asks to be put to bed, or the parent actively tries to initiate it on their behalf.

  • @ladyeimer this is working for my child Sims. Did you place the bed, furniture or any decor using the move objects cheat? Or do you have a nearby ceiling item such as a pendant light or ceiling mobile, especially on a short wall? Or do you have a double bed for the child with one side against a wall? Or an item that has been resized? In my experience it's almost always a pendant light that looks as if it has space but Sims still can't get around it, especially on a short wall.

I'd try clearing anything from the ceiling and if you used MOO I'd place everything again in build mode and see if any have red lines around them to indicate they have been placed in a spot where they wouldn't fit without MOO. Same for anything that has been resized. You could also just increase the wall height to Tall and test that.

If it's none of those things then if you could post an image of the room and someone might be able to point to a possible problem.

Also if nothing helps could you let us know what platform you are on and if you have any mods/cc in your game please?

Thanks for your response, that's so nice! But there's nothing there, other than the toy chest:

But even if I move it out the interaction won't work:

I wonder if the game somehow thinks the outside steep hill is too close to the inside, not that this makes any sense.

I use some mods but it's always the same ones that I've been using for years where this never was an issue. It's just MCCC (latest version, just like the game that is also latest version) and "More traits in CAS" for the possibly invasive ones, other than that just some additional trait tunings and custom furniture. None of the custom furniture pieces are used in this room.

@ladyeimerhave you tried expanding the room by a couple of tiles? It may be the size and shape of it because of the angled wall. I've had routing failures with angles like that before although I like that they add character. I'd test it in a larger square room first with nothing around the bed maybe just to see if the interaction is working and then you'll know that you need look again at the original bedroom shape and size.

Edit: I'd move the door too as the Sims walk through it together to put a child to bed. That could be an issue.

@simsplayer818The interaction definitely works sometimes, even with this exact layout, after randomly deleting stuff it sometimes works. But then later with the same room layout it no longer does. I don't really want to make the room larger just to work around this apparent bug, I just kind of wanted to vent. And maybe if some others show up with the same problem, who knows, it could get patched one day. That would be nice...

@ladyeimer you could also try rotating the door so it opens in a direction away from the angled wall.
With possible bugs we first make sure it actually is a bug. Then it would be reported as such in a bug report.
If it was an issue that only occurred sporadically and in rooms with plenty of space around the bed each time then since you have mods installed you'd be asked to test in a vanilla save game without mods/cc.

Thanks for the response! The door isn't diagonal and therefore not intruding into the two squares (or even the three ones in the 2nd variant) in front of the bed. I don't understand how this could possibly be intended. Even if it's just unfortunate space requirements in the code it seems like it should be fixed :-| I also can't recall it ever being that picky in smaller rooms in the past.

@ladyeimerI mean the angle the door opens just to clarify since it's opening towards a tight space with 2 Sims walking in together.
I'm just testing it in my game now and I've kept the shape of the room but just dragged that angled wall along by one tile and now my Sim can easily put a child to bed. I tucked in the toy box under the light because there's a little extra space there now. So the room is still the same length of 3 tiles but the angled section has been moved to the right by 1 tile.
So the middle section of the room now has 4 tiles and the bottom has 3.5 tiles instead of 2.5 tiles. It still has an interesting shape but just a fraction wider and it works fine.
Routing can be a bit more finicky than we'd expect it to be.

Edit: I haven't replicated the outside room leading to the bedroom though as I can't quite see that properly to copy it but I'm assuming that's got space if the Sims are able to walk up to the little room.
