Sims can't relax and read?

It's been 3/4 years since relaxing has been added into the game and sims still cannot relax and read on beds or loungers. What is the point of this animation if all they do is lay down not being able to do anythning except watch tv? is there a mod that allows this or can this be updated in the game?
