Taking care of infant and toddler

It is impossible to take care of an infant/toddler. My sims can't seem to do the tasks I ask them to. They keep holding the baby, then putting them down en picking them up again. It takes so long to do one simple thing, that the infant keeps on having low needs, just as the sim that is trying to take care of the infant. I play on laptop and already have laptop mode on. Everything else works fine but I hate infant and toddler phase because of this, even tho it could be so much fun to teach the toddlers stuff. It is just not possible with how much time everything costs for it to even work. PLEASE FIX THIS
