My Sims have busy lives. They are not interested in spending 5 hours to get to festivals and other events that often only last 5 to 6 hours, then another 5 hours to get home, after arriving to find that the festival is either already over or is ending in less than an hour. You might not like instant transport but I do.
That's fair, travel times certainly aren't for everyone. The millions of festivals all over the sim-globe aren't for me, and all the notifications/invites drive me absolutely crazy. In a perfect world (if they did ever add travel times) there would be an option in the settings to just toggle it on/off, but I wouldn't count on them making a setting for it. They could just make it so that invites get you there faster/instantly, or come with enough time in advance for your Sims to plan around it.
